I admire your engineering logic applied to this noble game. You have taken the foundations laid by Robert Byrne and constructed and monument of education. Clear video and audio, concise narration with proper grammar and articulate diction make your videos the best resource for pool players. There is an important social aspect to this seemingly trivial pursuit. When information is available to all, it levels the playing field. Assuming every player has access to the same facts, it's really just a matter of ability plus practice. If we applied this level of quality to all education and made it freely accessible, the entire world would benefit. The same concise logical clarity can and should be used in Music, Math and political discourse. The fact that you freely admit mistakes and immediately correct them is a valuable lesson too. Imagine how much better news media could be by just applying that scientific honesty! Kudos Sir! Pool and billiards and snooker are just games to the uninitiated. To those who know the game and know your work as an educator, we see a paradigm for a better society. We should all strive for this level of excellence and apply these techniques to the "game" of life.

@DrDaveBilliards or anyone who can assist.... In a game of 9ball a player breaks and 9 ball sits in a pocket but he doesn't sink anything his opponent comes to the table plays a shot sinks the one but hooks himself and can't get to the 2 ball... To prevent his opponent getting ball in hand and combo the 2 to 9 he uses his cue to sink the 9ball directly without the cue ball.... Is that a loss of game or just a regular foul and 9ball replaced on the spot?
@DrDaveBilliards
@DrDaveBilliards 3 жыл бұрын
@@shanemccarthy7282 That would be considered an "unsportsmanlike conduct" foul, which would usually result in loss of game. The alternative would be to replace the ball where it was and give the opponent ball in hand.

@@taichan5247 I've had 1 break and run for 8 ball. Usually can get 5 balls before I either don't get shape or just flat miss. But I think it also has to do in my case with not always playing three balls ahead. Also when I practice a lot of times it's not structured I'm just shooting. So my focus lately has been rack analysis and making sure I can get good shape for the next shot. Don't feel bad for not being able to run every table. It takes time!

Dave, I'm impressed by all the great material you make available for free on your channel and website! Being an engineer myself, I particularly like your systematic approach to billiards. One thing I always wondered is, do you play/like carom billiards? (i.e. 1-cushion, 3-cushion, straight rail or balkline). And if so, do you have any material on that game, or do you know any resources as good as yours are for those games? Thank you very much!
@DrDaveBilliards

I like (but don't play) carom games, but most of my CB control stuff and kick shot systems apply just as well to those games. See: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/cue-ball-control/ and: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/bank-kick/ Enjoy! PS: I'm glad you like my stuff.

Dave, there was a word you used at 2:16 that sounded something like "clang." Could you tell me what word that is and what it means. I occasionally experience odd contact with the OB on a slow, follow shot in which the CB doesn't roll as far as planned and it has me perplexed as to why it occurs. The CB seems to jump a bit at impact with the OB and I'm wondering if you may be referring to this type of occurrence. Thanks!

I have a question about a foul in a game of 9 ball, Dr. Dave. I was playing 9 ball by myself and came across a one-nine shot. I shot the one into the nine really hard and made the nine first and then the one, it seemed. But they both seemed to have hopped into the same corner pocket at the same time. Would this be considered a foul if both balls (The nine ball and the one ball.) went in seemingly at the exact same time?
@DrDaveBilliards
@DrDaveBilliards 3 жыл бұрын
Anytime the 9 goes (even on the break) with a legal hit, you win the game. It doesn't matter when it goes.
