Use sunscreen every day NIGHTTIME 3. Wash your face + gentle cleanser 4. Use a moisturizer (niacinamide & licorice); no need for a separate serum 5. For Acne awareness month, could you break down different types of acne and if there are any treatments for different types? Like hormonal acne for instance
@msi83113 жыл бұрын
I have had hormonal acne since December 2020. I had it in December 2018-July 2019 and it cleared on its own. Now it’s lingering much longer and I have to decide whether to use isotretinoin or not. I don’t have hair to shed, that would maybe be worse than the hormonal acne is shedding 50% of my hair, so I don’t know what to do. My Derm and primary care seem to have less information than I do (because they have said so) and it breaks my confidence in trusting them.

I believe Dr Dray has spoken about this in many of her vids. All these actives that she mentioned in this video are highly effective at treating many types of acne, except for nodules and cystic. Salicylic Acid Cleanser in the morning and Adapalene at night will make a huge difference. You can also add Azelaic Acid for a better result. Always start slow. Introduce each active one by one. For example, if you choose to try Salicylic Acid first, use it for at least 2 weeks, and if your skin can tolerate it, you can add Adapalene into your routine.
@meganepelletier8533 жыл бұрын
@@msi8311 What have you been using to treat the acne so far? If it cleared up on its own the first time, I suppose you sought medical attention after the December 2020 breakouts, aka about 6 months ago? I doubt you've had time to try many avenues of treatment in that time frame, so if you're scared of hair loss/dryness with isotretinoin I'd seek other treatment options first (eg. topicals (retinoids, bha, aha, benzoyl peroxide, clindamycin, spot treatments, etc.), oral contraception, doxycycline, spironolactone) . Even when my acne was at it's worst isotretinoin was considered a last resort option because of the side effects. If you feel like your dermatologist is not as helpful as you'd like you can always seek a second opinion and perhaps look for someone who specializes in more severe acne cases.

My derm pretty much told me topical products won't do anythinf for acne spots and hyperpigmentation (besides something like tretinoin). He said it requires a physical treatment like microneedling. It's the most cost effective & successful way to completely even out skin tone and get rid of spots. Otherwise you're spending hundreds on skincare products for months (if not years) trying to get those spots to go away.
@marijaperkovic43843 жыл бұрын
Really? I feel like products help me woth hyrepigmentation
@kaylan20833 жыл бұрын
@@marijaperkovic4384 most scars and hyperpigmentation are deep in the dermis. Topical products applied to the top layer of skin (epidermis) aren't going to reach those spots or do anything to lighten them. Only exfoliants and microneedling can gradually remove layers of skin to bring those scars from deep in the dermis to the surface and disappear/lighten them. Microneedling causes skin to turnover much quicker...thus a few treatments bring those spots to the surface in a couple of weeks/months as opposed to a year or more of just using topical products and letting skin shed on its own.
@inkompetenzkompensationsko41883 жыл бұрын
I guess it really depends on the specific dark spots. If they're super deep and red/purple, getting rid of them with regular products won't work but if its just the upper layers of the skin topicals will be fine. If you're spending hundreds of dollars for products or for micro needling in his office is the real question here.
@kaylan20833 жыл бұрын
@@inkompetenzkompensationsko4188 right--they work if your scars are right at the epidermis/top level. But if you're someone with deep deep spots in your dermis, you might as well shell out the $ once and be done with it, rather than spending hundreds/thousands over the course of several years on serums, exfoliants, etc.

Guys for sure it's a great advice but for me personally what helped a ton was laser. You have to go to a doctor that really specializes in laser treatments so they can choose the laser based on your skin. But honestly, the biggest difference in redness out of everything I have done, and I had a lot of redness because of the heavy acne I had when I was young and some from a chemical burn. Dr Dray can you please do a repeat of this but with Asian products? You have quite a base of us here too!

I’ve been enjoying both of those sunscreens. I use the Cetaphil mineral face liquid first, and then use the Cerave tinted one on top to hide the white cast. It’s nice for summer, but I’ll probably have to find a different combo for winter due to the tint being orangey.

I am so impressed w the Cetaphil sunscreen too. They killed it with their first line of “real” (non-moisturizer water resistant) spfs. So much better than Cerave non-tinted ones imo. I think the Cetaphil liquid one is actually almost an exact match for the Colorscience total face shield original formula, sans the tint obviously. If Cetaphil could tint that thing, we’d have a drugstore dupe!

Try to search for products that have the main ingredient and hopefully with the same percentage. I do that if I can't find some of the products 😊

I'm loving the Cerave Sheer tint. I think they made the color less orange so it is better for me. I all these products are very affordable. I hope to reach this level of care little by little.

Any ideas why azelaic acid hasn't made it into the drugstore lines? It works so well for post acne marks. I'm pretty sure it would have been mentioned in this video if it was in a mainstream product that WalMart carried.

Albolene > Ponds I tried switching to Ponds bc everyone recommends it. It doesn’t take off makeup like Albolene does!
