My super thick hair thinned somewhat at menopause, then recently ( many years down the road) it’s started falling out again. I started shampooing with Nizoral - which Dr Dray has mentioned may be helpful, and it worked for me. So grateful for this channel! Thanks Dray! 💕

I love a good scalp massage, it's so relaxing! I used on of those metal spider-like massager every night as I relax watching TV. My scalp feels all tingly so I know it stimulates the blood flow! The only downside? My dog sits by the couch, staring longingly at the massager... I have to massage him, from his head all down his back if I want any chance of getting off the couch to go to bed! 😂

I love when they message my scalp before a haircut. It never lasts long enough though. Lol! I always message my scalp when I shampoo but never thought to do it consistently and for a longer period of time. I find it relaxing so I'm definitely going to give it a try. Even if I don't see any visible difference in my hair, it can be a little self care routine that will also feel great and help me to relax. Thanks for the information. Happy Monday, Dr Dray! I hope you have a nice evening. 💚

Decades ago, I went to a cosmetology school in London for a shampoo and cut. I was pulled from the kine to go to be seen by students in an advanced class. They were all from Japan. My stylist didn’t speak English, so we didn’t talj, but, my God did he ever give the best hair massage I have ever gotten in my (niw) 65 years. Tempted to move to Hapan hust thinking about it.

I have real questions. Did the studies say anything about hair loss continuing after massage, or is it more permanent than Minoxidol? Did they have any experimental groups that went longer than 20 minutes, or shorter? How long did it take them to see results? Could you include a self demonstration of how to massage the scalp? Does having a tight ponytails exacerbate hair recession? Thank you!

I have really long (waist-length) fine hair, and one thing I've discovered is that if I massage my scalp a few times (for just a minute or so at a time) while my hair is drying, it ends up looking a lot fuller once it's dry. Not the same thing as it actually growing in more thickly, but it definitely makes it look thicker.

For my 50th birthday my sister gifted me a stay at a bed and breakfast (with her) and massages. The scalp massage was so relaxing that I fell asleep! Definitely go have one done! I a now at 64 years old, experiencing hair thinning. I have been using Rogaine 5% for about 6 months now, along with a supplement and even threw a scalp serum and a hair thickening shampoo into the mix and have very little hair shedding and while still thin, less of my scalp is showing. Having curly hair helps to hide the scalp too, but I have noticed more fullness in the thinning area which is mainly my crown. You have to throw everything and the kitchen sink at it and stick with it to see any results.

I would love to see a good video of how you do it. I'm not sure if I'm doing it right, maybe I apply too much preassure or I'm doing it too vigorously because whenever I do a scalp massage and brush it afterwards about 2 or 3 times more hair fall out than when I usually brush it, so I've always been afraid to continue with it regularly. I suspected it was because of the reasons Dr Dray says, but still scary.

I bought a fancy scalp massager, but as you mentioned my hair started falling more when brushing afterwards. And 10 minutes going around with that thing can be pretty annoying for someone without much patience like me. Does it work? In the beginning I noticed less hair on my brush after washing, but once again it was falling more after the massage, so it might have been just the compensation. Long story short, I stopped using it. Been on Minoxidil for 3 years on the hairline and it has worked well. My hair is considerably denser on that area as well as on the temples. Used a tonic caffeine based for some time and also rosemary oil and they worked too, but recently found out that rosemary oil is not indicated for people with high blood pressure. In fact I ended up in the hospital with an arrhythmia and a blood pressure of 187/78 after applying an overly generous amount of rosemary oil to my scalp. Natural doesn't mean safe. Beware!

I can attest to the efficacy of scalp massage. Months ago, I noticed in the mirror that my top scalp has started to show more. Then there was this vlog of dr dray where she mentioned that using a scalp massage in shampooing may help in hair density. So, I bought a pair and tried it like every other day. And just a month later, I could barely see my scalp! Like, my hair has fully covered my top scalp.

I grew up in a loving family where we would "do each other's hair". Basically, scalp massage and brushing of the hair. It is so relaxing. Now that I'm a single woman, I have no one to " do my hair". Haha So I purchased one of the $4 silicone scalp massagers and it is wonderful! I was wondering about the oils everyone is using, but I bet the fact that massage is part of the process, is beneficial. Thanks, Dr. Dray for another informative video.

@@reginaw5085 I bought one of those silicone ones on Amazon and yes, I found it tangles my long hair, in or out of the shower. Thankfully it wasn't expensive, but I really wanted it to work. The metal spidery one tangles less for me, but I'm finding that fingers just work best if you've got long hair, and you can press down and slide your scalp back and forth over your skull in different directions, and do gentle pinching, both of which I read were beneficial. It's just kind of tiring! But hey, if it works, it's worth it.

Morning Dr Dray! I've been using a handheld, rubber massager to loosen psoriasis plaques when shampooing for over a year now. I've noticed a significant increase in hair shedding at time of washing (likely due to the actual psoriasis). My question is whether or not it's wise to do this while the hair is wet, with my particular condition, or is there a more effective way which doesn't cause as much mechanical tension on already weak strands. I do deal with breakage, as well. Many thanks!

Dr Dray I wonder if one of the reasons people notice a difference using oils is precisely the fact that by moisturizing the scalp directly, it stops the itching (in the case of dry scalp). Then, you don't itch like crazy and you don't yank hairs out unnecessarily, which I'm sure I was doing before I started oiling my scalp before washing it. Just a thought!!

If any men see this comment, know that minoxidil is NOT a standalone androgenetic alopecia treatment, and neither is scalp massage. Only finasteride and dutasteride can stop pattern hair loss in men by addressing the root cause. Hair will continue to miniaturize and fall out on minoxidil and scalp massage alone.

Hi Jackie! Happy Monday!! HI hope you had a great day and that you are doing well. It was another pretty day here. A bit warmer but still low humidity. My day was busy but it went well. We had lots of cute fur babies including a kitty named Pebbles and a lab named Tucker. 😊 I've just made tea and my kitties are gathered around. We hope you and Miss Fancy Pants will join us. I think we deserve a sweet treat too. I know I could use something sweet! Please give Miss Fancy Pants her cuddles and head scratches from me. I hope you have a wonderful evening. Peace, joy and many blessings to you always. 💖🕊💖🙏💖☕🐈☕🐈💖🍰🐾🐾💖🌻💖

Does massaging when shampooing count? I do it for 5 minutes with some pressure. 5 more when applying minoxidil.

Hair massage stopped my hair loss! I massage my head for an hour a day, and I'm thrilled (and surprised) with the results. I have to admit, I haven't seen much regrowth, and hopefully there will be some, but at least I'm not losing any more hair!

What about people with scalp dandruff /psoriasis ect... wouldn't scalp massages make inflammation worse?
@camhunts
@camhunts 2 ай бұрын
Are you scratching or massaging? I don't see how massaging (with finger tips no nail) would worsen inflammation, massaging helps with inflammation

I struggle with dandruff that comes and goes - I would say stay away from oils - they made my dandruff so much worse. Use a scalp massager on its own - really gently, it is good for loosening flakes and then I shampoo after massaging and that washes the flakes away.

The thing about oils is that they feed fungus and I'm prone to dandruff, so I give oil a pass
