I heavily recommend that people experiment with aftertouch via CV voltages back to the Abyss inputs of filter cutoff, delay time, or phaser. I have hooked up my aftertouch keybed into CV OCD which outputs a voltage depending on the pressure. IMO, adds a new dimension to the Abyss character!
@ProckGnosis5 жыл бұрын
Cool suggestion Mark...should be able to easily do it from my Waldorf KB37 as well (the aftertouch CV out to filter cutoff in). And now that I think about it, I can try a few other CV-out options for affecting the filter.

This is a real nice combination. That Hypnosis thing looks awesome. Curious what you make of the Abyss in comparison with the Nymphes.
@ProckGnosis2 жыл бұрын
That's actually on my "to do" list...to run the Nymphes through this, and to also layer the Abyss and the Nymphes together. Tough question as to how they compare. Obviously love having more voices on the Nymphes, and it is MUCH more programmable, but there's something about the interface on the Abyss that I prefer a bit. Likely because of the bigger selection of knobs, which are just easier to work with, even though, yeah, the Abyss has some sliders too. And a question for you: when do you sleep and does your significant other even see you during the week, lol??

The Hypnosis sounds very very organic. Great demo , the Chorus is really charming. Almost has an old Juno 6 series vibe to it.
@ProckGnosis5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's definitely a niche sound, but it just happens to be a really classic sounding niche, and one that I really like. More than I expected to, to be honest. This would be the frosting on the cake for some cheezy homage to a 70's horror movie soundtrack.

Nice Demo! I would love to hear it with my Vermona Performer, which is stereo as well. This might be a question of taste, but how do you rate the value for money? It has gone down in price but is still at 439€ which is a boatload for something without USB, MIDI, etc. especially when compared to flagships like the H9 (which I sold because it was too overwhelming ;) ). I guess the Hypnosis' character might make up for it but I'm torn still. Thanks again!
@ProckGnosis5 жыл бұрын
Aaaaa...das ist schwere zu antworten. Es hängt von deinem Ziel. I have the H9 and love it (so much I bought a second), but I think the Hypnosis is perfect for a particular niche that even the H9 can't fill so well. If you want that late 70s or early 80s vibe, it's great for that and very much worth the price. I've also seen some creative videos where people got sounds out of the Hypnosis I wouldn't have imagined or thought of (for sounds beyond the 70s/80s chorus vibe I love it for). I do think it would marry up quite nicely to your Vermona Perfourmer (which I almost bought a couple times). So you have to ask yourself what you REALLY want to have for sound and what you need/want more? 1) A seriously cool chorus, that has a few really strong features or 2) a chorus that offers more features (digital IO, midi, clock-sync, etc) and costs less, but maybe doesn't have that "character" you mentioned? Nur du kannst entscheiden... : ) And I caught a couple of your videos playing guitar (Herzscheiße)...AWESOME! Great work. Very interesting fusion of modern, ambient, and even bluesy styles and motifs. I'm a big Steve Howe fan (from Yes), and parts of your performance were similar (because of the varied styles), but in an updated, more modern way. War echt toll!

ProckGnosis Danke für das Kompliment :) Those videos are really old, maybe I should do a couple of new ones... I liked my H9s a lot as well but the possibilities were so endless that I found myself tweaking knobs most of the time, not making music. The Hypnosis could do the trick with ease of use and its unusual sound. Thanks again!

Thank you for this, I am curious tho... The verb on the Nyx V2 in relation to the Hypnosis verb...can the Nyx have a longer tail than the Hypnosis? I ask because I also like to add a long -tailed verb to the mix.
@AdamTheAd-vanc3d5 жыл бұрын
Funny you say that. I was thinking the same thing.
@ProckGnosis5 жыл бұрын
Good question. Not sure, because the spring reverb has a physical/analog component (the spring) and the Nyx reverb is strictly a digital affair. Would therefore expect the Nyx v2 reverb would be capable of the longer tail, but I'm not sure. Was kind of surprised (but pleasantly so) when I realized they both have the same "LFO-modulating the reverb" thing going.
@dr.getter71185 жыл бұрын
The Nyx's reverb can go on infinitely, if you set the decay time to max. Unless the Hypnosis has some kind of feedback circuit that allows the same thing, then nope, Nyx would win in that department.

@@dr.getter7118 When I get the Nyx 2, maybe I'll do a comparison. I am looking forward to checking it out...

@@ProckGnosis I look forward to that! I wish I had room left for another tabletop synth, - maybe I could move the cat. Loving the Hypnosis, I have managed a 10cc backing vocal pad for my guitar, as well as a Robin Guthrie ebow pad as well. Driving it with different gain pedals provides widely varying results as well. I am probably going to sell my old Fender reverb chamber, I am using the Hypnosis 100% of the time now. Thanx for helping me choose, fellas.

Thanks for having notes on the side, most of the synth youtubers go way too damn fast and I have to repeat entire sections several times to catch everything they're saying. I'm a beginner (obviously), so your format is a nice change.
@ProckGnosis5 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. My vids aren't always formatted that way, but I try to make them a little more understandable for a wider (and sometimes non-English speaking) audience. I find adding some text helps pass on more info and not get in the way of the audio in the video.
