On Wednesday I crashed my bike. I was about to hit a 4 foot drop and I saw my friends dog sitting on the landing. I hit my brakes and go straight over the end. Lost grip and held on to my front brake. Did an endo for about 10 feet before flipping.

Haha yep. A few people thought that, I didn't see that coming! I thought it would be better to show a real bike that's been ridden hard, instead a perfectly clean one. Nice build. I have the stock release 3 29er , and Im wondering...how would the geometry handle a 27.5 rear wheel as a mullet? thoughts?
@PorterMTB3 жыл бұрын
I don't think that would work very well, I think the BB would be too low. Let me know if you try it though! If you wanted to do that I would get a Release 27.5 which has 130mm rear travel and 150mm front, then put a 29" fork with 130mm travel and a 29" front wheel, that would more closely match the stock geo and get you the mullet bike.

Been eyeing up a new Release 29'er. Shame the Mission Carbon isn't available in XL. Either bike I'm sure will be fine for western NC though.
@PorterMTB4 жыл бұрын
I think you’ll love the Release 29 for NC. The Mission has a much longer top tube, so the size L is quite roomy, but yes it is 27.5. I prefer it that way, I think the smaller wheels are more fun and playful, long travel 29ers can make the trail too smooth and easy, and they are big bikes!

I have a 4c but it's calls for 200x57 mm rear. What shock can I upgrade to without throwing off geometry?
@PorterMTB Жыл бұрын
Hey! 200mm x 57mm or 7.875 x 2.25 will fit, I either run the Fox DPX2 or the Fox Float X2, both work great, the Float X2 has more adjustments and can handle long rough descents better, but I really like either.

@PorterMTB4 жыл бұрын
Brake side out if you're working on brakes! I thought my brake setup was more interesting than the drivetrain on this bike check, and I could show the suspension linkage better this way too, without being blocked by the chainring.

Why not AXS on this one like you have on your mission carbon?
@PorterMTB4 жыл бұрын
Great question! This is a bike I have traveled to other countries with on very remote rides, and I can make a cable actuated derailleur work if I break something on a trail. With AXS, it works better than anything else, but it’s not fixable in the field. Not a problem in the US with access to bike shops, but a big problem on the other side of the world!
@rjlemast4 жыл бұрын
Porter MTB so I put the AXS dropper post on my Habit 6 and I love it. Probably overkill on a $2K bike, but it’s amazing. Would it be ridiculous to put the AXS derailleur on there, or should I just wait until I get the $8K-10K bike? :)
@PorterMTB4 жыл бұрын
Ryan LeMasters if you can afford it, definitely put it on. Best drivetrain money can buy, and it’s easy to switch to other bikes too, you only need the shifter and derailleur, everything else is the same with Eagle 12 speed.

I want to upgrade my Rear Shox on my Release 3 29 but I can't find the size where did you find it?
@brokenj754 жыл бұрын
Ive been looking at this bike just not 100% on what size . Most bikes id be on a x/l but diamondback showing a large for me at 6'1"
@PorterMTB4 жыл бұрын
Depends on how long of a top tube you like, I would compare reach between your current bike and the DB models to find the right size. I'm 6'3" and I ride a size Large, but I'm definitely close to needing XL. The way I ride though favors the smaller bike, it keeps the standover height lower and makes the bike easier to throw around. If I was strictly trail riding I'd probably be on a XL.

Hey Eric - I have a release 5c. Did you get a different frame to add 29er wheels to it?
@PorterMTB4 жыл бұрын
This bike is a different frame than what you have, it's built around 29" wheels, and sold as the Release 29!
@jmluisdeoliveiramore Жыл бұрын
It went together easily in less than an hour. kzbin.infoUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
