Custom built 2021 Commencal Ramones 20 inch kids bike

@Lonely mtb rider what drivetrain setup are you using (cassette, cranks, BB, rear derailleur)? Also is the rear wheel an aftermarket set up? I am doing some upgrades my little dudes 20" and Ramones and this similar to what I am planning on doing to his.

It's frpm the time when 9 speed was the norm. But the cage is stolen from an alfine chain tensioner.

Cassette? And is that the standard hub on custom wheels?

Freehub, it's just some el cheapo wheels 😊

I am undecided between the Ramones and the Specialized RipRock, by any chance did you look into the Specialized? what are your thoughts in regards of weight and better machine?

They are probably pretty equal, at least from what I can see. But I think for kids bikes it's the details that make or break it all. Make sure that the brakes are hydraulic and not mechanic disc brakes because small hands are not very strong. The grips need to be thin and the crank arms really short. Etc etc. And why not Narrow Wide chainring, the sandwitch bash design that everybody use for kids bikes is pretty outdated. Manufacturers make nice frames but then they stick some random parts on to them, that may not be adapted for kids at all. That's why I built the bike from scratch, to be able to carefully select every part.

@@lonelymtbrider3369 Thanks for your response. I just bought the RipRock and it is really nice. However, I totally agree regarding parts. This bike comes with hand brake and coster brake as well... yeah, what a nonsense!!!

How much does it weight with the custom parts?

After upgrading to lighter discs, pedals and a 30t chainring, it now weighs 9.6 kg

@@d3iutu It's just a normal shimano altus 7 speed shifter, nothing special.
