You could be me, bc I bought the Chisel Comp as well 2 wks ago, and love it probably just as much!😄 Only 2 minutes in, I already dig this vid, bc Jim Bob shows proper details thru the close-ups, very instructive! The frame is really beautiful, and very worthwhile of upgrading (or custom build like here).

I got a large chisel frame and built it up with hunt xc race wheels, vittoria barzo 2.35 & mezcal 2.25 tlr, 2025 fox 32 step cast performance, enve m5 carbon bar, 65mm enve alloy stem, deity knuckledusters, microshift advent x (with a sword 11-38t cassette), hope dropper lever, one up v3 dropper 125mm, wtb volt saddle (needs to be replaced), raceface aeffect cranks 165mm, wolftooth 32t oval, magura mt trail sport brakes with 180/180 storm hc rotors, kmc x10sl chain, crankbrothers stamp 1 small pedals (also need to be replaced) and it weighs 24.0lbs with 2oz of stans in each tire and a basic aluminum bottle cage. Hoping to get it down to 23lbs with a new seat, pedals, and eventually wheels, all while still keeping budget somewhat in mind.

What headset did you use? Mainly I’m wondering what the long bolt inserted up through the bottom of the steer tube was. My control SL wheels should be here some day, and I’ll see what the weight is when I install them.

Just the headset that comes with the frame. What you’re asking about is the specialized steer tube swat tool that I use instead of a star nut and top cap. Also my wheels with tires weigh 4lbs

@@brakeforsnakes Put my Control SL wheels on yesterday (Shimano MS + Centerlock) and did a 30 mile river path ride. I feel less fatigued than riding my Road+ bike with 650x47c slicks, so I'll call it a success to making my Chisel my new gravel & XC bike. I just need to upgrade some other parts to lighten up now.

That’s dependent on what gearing you put on it. Its standard mtb gearing I’d assume so the same as any other mtb you have

Is it possible for someone with no experience to build a bike from scratch or is that a dumb undertaking? I'm loving the Chisel hard tail frame specs, but i don't like the low end junk on the overpriced pre-built options. Trying to figure out how hard the headset install would be.

It’s very easy for the most part but you may need help and special tools for cutting the steer tube, bleeding the brakes, setting the derailer up, etc. That said you should do it so you know how to fix it

The aluminium chisel is only 1.3 kg lighter than a lot of carbon frames. A very light carbon is around .9 kg. Some people like myself prefer aluminium to carbon. Different ride and your better off if the bike is crashed. The chisel also has a lifetime warranty on the frame.
