Liked the look of this bike when I was a kid with his square light even if the 916 was the fave. Now I like even more hearing it. Lovely thing. This series is probably the best I have ever seen about bikes. Always seems too short ;) Thanks!

I still remember the first time I heard this bike, in French Vosges mointains...what a bike ! Few years later, i had the chance to race a 888 stock during a 600 miles race. Not an easy bike, but so rewarding ! ❤❤❤

Love the dream rides episodes and this is why I subscribed. Please keep it going. Would absolutely love to see an early gen1 factory original Hayabusa on the series to see what you guys have to say about it. They are still a very attainable bike yet a slowly appreciating modern classic. A lot of bike for the money and an absolute legend in the biking world. Keep up the good work 👍🏼

I only once had the opportunity to ride one. Absolutely unforgettable. I had a 900SS that made me feel like a centaur. This one did also unlike any other. I was in jeans, shirt, city shoes gloves helmet. Not my bike. I would take a very slow careful spin. 250km/h on a secondary road, full brakes, knees over the ground for a 180º back home ... When Ducati calls, you've got to go.

I was at donnington when Giancarlo Falappa won riding one of these and celebrated with stand up wheelies. 33 years ago, Freddie merkel was there too and I’m sure Ron Harlem and Terry Rymer riding the JPS Norton’s. Good times

The distinctive Ducati soundtrack is becoming much less on the newer generation models

@@JelloThatsMellow Still, the low tone throaty grunt is missing from the newer models. They all sound castr**** The lack of a dry clutch is also a shame

The new Ducati's are slowly losing their desmo valve system (multistradaV4, Diavel V4) . This means they lose that soft, hollow sound that no other bikes can replicate. Cam chains instead of belts add more mechanical noise too. The engines are oversquare and more 'revvy' . The trellis frames have gone Exhaust systems are often over £5000. Probably still selling like hot cakes but not for me anymore.

It's still there on their supersport V twin, the Panigale V2. And it's only really been the intended-for-racing models that had this pure, balanced sound the 851 introduced. The only blip was the 999 generation that had a much shorter pipe on the rear cylinder in stock trim. This shifted the sound significantly, just like it is on a Hypermotard or similar. Some of the Monsters came close i.e. the 1100/696/796 and 1200/821 generations, not the 950 though. Anything with a full Termignoni system most likely also. The V4s are a different beast entirely with their closely spaced firing pulses and extreme rpm ceiling. Even when idling in two cylinder mode, the intervals are off (290 instead of 270 degrees).

I bought an 888 sp4 because there was a support superbike race at the Donnington GP in 1992 (3 ?) . It had a couple 888 race bikes in it, I was captivated by the big booming bikes....although by today's standards they're barely middleweights 🤔 Was that powdered rock salt being kicked up by Chris ?😮

Were all 888's SP4's? I remember my girlfriends dad having a Ducati 888 Superbike, as I remember it, as it had 'Superbike' written under the 888 sticker, this was in about '96-'97, not sure how long he had had it. I remember loving the look of the bike, but didn't dare get to close to it 🤣🤣 I now ride a Y2k ZX9r, awesome bike!

I don't know if you read my other comment but last summer I almost got the 996 Ducati but because of the price I went with a Honda VTR 996 I like the Honda but I'm kicking myself I would rather have had the Ducati such a better-looking bike that's the problem with the Honda it's just not that good of a looking bike I mean it's okay but definitely not as good as the Ducati if I had it to do over again I would spend the extra 1500 and get the Ducati...... But like I said the vtr's fun lots of grunt I think it's been modified I can get 2nd gear power wheelies that's always fun I'm sometimes in 3rd I ate a tire up in 6 months on that bike now I know he's on the throttle with that bike if you just grab a handful you end up spending a lot because of a low-down torque I guess I've been riding sport bikes since I was 16 50 now I've had a lot of different bike I've never ate up a tire and 6 months year-and-a-half usually
