Glyn. If you are using clear sheeting, use the heatgaurd 50 sheeting. Super job. Used alot now in cattle sheds etc. Look it up in greenhill system. Duggans in kilkenny stock standard lengths like 3 and 4 m long.

Sally is a super intelligent and skilled shepherd. She looks at you, ready to do what you want. Super obedient and precise. I got my first border collie, Chess, in Sweden in 1986. Switched to an Australian Kelpie when Chess got old and sick. She achieved shared first place in Denmark's shepherding championships. She looked at me like Sally looks at you. I still have Australian Kelpie - Extra. No more cheep, but if you have had a shepherd dog BC/AK you cannot switch to other breeds. Extra comes from a cattle herding dog breeder in Sweden. Extra reads me and she knows what we need almost before I know it. She reads it on the clothes, keys, daily routines, etc. A gutter could be useful until the roof is extended so that the foot bath liquid is not diluted. When the roof is extended, you will probably need a gutter to direct the water away from the brink and the concrete. A lot of water comes from the big roof. You have a good mood that is contagious. Is it your own land you are grazing, or is it the state's or a landowner's. How big is the area. I think I heard in a video that you have 700 sheep. Mules is it a race or a term for age or something.

Bet you'll be smiling the first time you run your sheep through your new footbath. That pivoting gate is impressive, have not seen that before. Would have enjoyed seeing drone shots of your time dropping lick buckets and chasing the neighbor's sheep. You live on such a beautiful property, the drone shots are so enjoyable. Ask your neighbor farmer to buy you a few 80kg lick buckets or a few bags of nuts every time their sheep come in. I've had the grain farmer snag my ram fence line two years in a row, with his equipment, both times when I was on vacation in August and Sept had to lamb in January and Feb in -35 and -40C weather instead of the planned May lambing. Inconsiderate neighbors are a nightmare.

With the cladding I’d go something like 2/3 tin,1/3 clear spaced out, you’ll have plenty of light, the tin is stronger in the wind and the clear stuff is expensive.

the curve in the handling system that Te Pari uses was designed by an American women called Temple Grandin many years ago and still works well in handling systems today - have you watched the movie they did about Dr Temple Grandin it was really interesting on how she came up with the idea - Temple is autistic - you can download the movie

Dr. Temple Grandin is God's gift to the world. I am so glad you mentioned her. When I saw the pen's curvacures, I instantly saw her in my mind. Her wisdom changed square corrals to round for animals & how the meat packing industry processes....all for the betterment of man & beast. Many utube documentaries. Worthwhile for all farmers with livestock.😉

Brilliant handling system and great job on the adding in your own modification for the foit bath , keep blue stone away from it. As for the sheep, that would seriously wrinkle my tin foil , id let them stay ,then when he would turn up id charge him a €1.50 a head per week for the grazing or he isnt getting them .Thats how scab and abortion can be so easily transmitted from flock to flock.Keep up the hard work and well done on the handling unit you both deserve it.

Really neat set up. Do you think there may be sheep that would catch a leg in the bottom of the slide gates? On the video it looks like there is a gap between the bottom slide rail and the bottom brace. We have used some rubber belting on some cattle pens to cover that gap, but still let the gate slide.

Good fences makes good neighbours. I find those sliding in frame hurdles a bit narrow to push through good numbers of sheep, you might end up taking them out to make holding pen bit bigger.

Hi Glyn, like the new fence setup to guide the sheep for the Handling System. It was a great idea to put the custom gate to allow you to send the sheep through the foot bath easier. The only issue I see is with the narrow swing gates is if you get a lot of sheep in a line some may try to backup and get caught with the locking backwards. Looks like you got your exercise chasing after the neighbor's sheep so hopefully you got all nine back were they belong.

That's a great investment Glyn, and will pay for itself in labour saving, and with a roof over it's luxury to be in the dry. Would a roof fully consisting of clear sheeting not be very vulnerable to wind ? You'd need twice the timber to support it, I think. If you went with pvc coated box profile, with a white coloured underside, and a clear sheet every third run it should be bright enough.

I see Marlon heat guard adds on KZbin, looks good heavy duty stuff but I’d say standard clear light sheeting from blarney trading in ballincollig or Irish Roll Forming in Cork would do fine

Google is your friend to find a sheeting supplier but there is a place out in ballincollig called blarney trading. I'm not sure of prices, quality etc. There's another place in Dublin too but any roofing supplier should have them. Have your measurements ready and price around.
