Really hard to pick MVPs this VNL for some positions. Libero was the hardest to pick from. Yamamoto , shoji and zatorski all played insanely good.

Yamamoto-San really deserved the best libero in my view. He has been unbelievable! Dai Nippon Team is famous for its floor defense, and it is the talent, efforts and quickness of Yamamoto-San combined with Sekita-San made the main difference.

Don’t get me wrong sekita is a great setter for Japan, but that’s the problem, he’s probably only this effective with Japan, drop him in any other team and he might struggle playing well as he normally does. Micah from USA can be dropped in any team and bring out their 100%

All awards are just right for me except for two. Best Libero is highly debatable between the 3 Yamamoto,Shoji, Zatorski in order (personal rankings based on playoff performance). No doubt Kaczmarek is the real MVP here.

I really thought tomo would be awarded as best libero. I mean, he's the best libero according to finals stat (1st in digging and 3rd in receiving), and he really did well too in elims. Plus, no hate to zatorski, but lukasz and alek are more deserving for mvp. He played well, but he was not the one who shined to me. Still, congrats to all players! Have a good rest! ♡

Agreed, I think Sekita was more valuable in this tournament than Christenson. But Zatorski was absolutely on fire, and saved Poland several times. He deserves both MVP and best libero, over Yamamoto.

I don't know who chooses these players. Last year in World Cup Lavia didn't get an award and now Zatorski got MVP where he wasn't even best libero. Even Zatorski was shocked.

Zatorski was on fire this tournament. Very noticeable. Shoji was off form, so the only other competitor was Yamamoto. Judgement call at that point, and you have to take into consideration that Poland won. I think it was the right call, and Zatorski had a number of absolutely clutch saves.

@@Chuyew Overall stats don't matter. Half of the teams in group stages were using their B teams, while Japan was running it hot with their best players, so their libero dig rate in relation to some others is inherently skewed. In the knockout stage, where it really counts, Zatorski had to receive against Brazil, Japan, USA, 3 teams that played solidly, whereas Yamamoto received against Slovenia that played horribly, Poland, and an Italy that was performing below expectations. Zatorski had a tougher job, since he was receiving against stronger teams.

@@cantcatchme6749 Not really. I checked stats from the final tournament and Yamamoto was clearly better than Zatorski. Yamamoto had almost 60% positive reception in match against Bieniek and Leon who are one of the best servers. Also another thing is digs. Japan team is not that high and more attacks are above block so Yamamoto had tougher challenge to make digs where block didn't touch the ball. Zatorski is far from his best form.

Sliwka is like Italy's Daniele Lavia's counterpart in Poland - both are overshadowed by more famous teammates (Sliwka by Kurek and Leon, Lavia by Michieletto and Gianelli). But both Sliwka and Lavia are so reliable in delivering points when they need to.
