i have been in and out of the Fellowship for 28 years and have followed Dream Theater along the way and these songs have inspired me through the years, I am 1 year sober now, this is an amazing sequence thanks for sharing .''Thy will not mine, be done''.
Huh. Thought they all begin with "Step". We might be onto something here....
@marknelson13117 жыл бұрын
Is step 11 really before step 10? I didn't know they were out of order chronologically.
@TheJUGGALO11137 жыл бұрын
Mark Nelson they're not out of order actually. ix is 9 because in Roman numerals you're basically saying 1 before 10. xi is 11 btw.
@marknelson13117 жыл бұрын
I know how Roman numerals work, and I'm referring to 10 and 11 not 9. Step eleven (XI) is at 40:40, while step ten (X) is at 42:26. Ten is after eleven chronologically in this list.

This is a pretty good edit. The transition between TGP and TDS is absolutely perfect, but personally I feel like there should be more space between all the other transitions. Especially TDS to TROAE, I think it's better to incorporate that build up from the beginning of TROAE somehow. Same goes for Repentance to TSF, I really dislike that you cut out the final voices from Repentance and the build up from TSF. TROAE to Repentance is pretty good, but again I think you should let it rest for a few more bars between the two rather than jumping *right* into Repentance. All that said, this is in fact the best edit I've found on KZbin so far!

You must know that trim the track, edit the "fades" and mix it with each other, is a something difficult in the music editing skills. Because DT's song have much chapter and lot of parts that is continued from other songs. But you can do it well, the sounds of each part of song blended well with sounds fused each other (fade in). Therefore, I give the appreciation for your creation.

Upon finishing the Suite in 2009, he reflected that he had "dug [himself] into a hole with it. It was a nice idea seven years ago... After a while it became like an obligation hanging over my head, like a homework assignment." He said that he "didn't know if [he] would have done it" if he knew how big the Suite was going to be: "If I had realized what I was getting myself into five albums ago... I think maybe I would have written one song that encompassed all twelve steps." (wikipedia)

"If we are painstaking about this phase of our development, we will be amazed before we are half way through. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows. Self seeking will slip away. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us. We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us. We will suddenly realise that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves. Are these extravagant promises? We think not. They are being fulfilled amongst us - sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly. They will always materialise if we work for them." This whole song/album is so amazing. It's probably one of the biggest things that has turned me into a God loving woman

Wonderful composition. I believe it is hard to accept that DT is not Portnoy or the other members, but it is actually something bigger than the musicians, this is the reason DT couldn't be over just because Portnoy wanted it to be over. I don't hope for a reunion, unless at some point it means that it helps DT continue evolving

i really wish they had performed this live in its entirety. Shame that Portnoy left so soon after the last part was complete (The Shattered Fortress). Also a shame that they don't seem to play The Best of Times live in concert anymore (due I guess to being a very personal song to Mike Portnoy). In fact they don't seem to really play any song MP wrote, anymore. Maybe legally they're not allowed to? Anyway, it would be nice to one day see DT and MP settle their differences, and allow a live Blu ray of this entire saga performed as a whole, to be released
@BenMichalowicz10 жыл бұрын
***** the never played the best of times because mike was too emotional. Who wouldn't tear up at a song about a loved one who died too soon or just died before you were ready to depart with them? and TheAdam159, you're right about them not playing That particular song. They actually do play quite a few songs Portnoy wrote. Such as The Shattered Fortress and The Mirror. I don't remember which songs Portnoy wrote from Awake besides the Mirror, and I forget which songs he wrote in Scenes from a Memory. But the bottom line is that they still play songs written by Mike because MP eventually wrote a lot of their later songs, at least from what I remember, so they really can't avoid it.
@RodniDemental9 жыл бұрын
Ben M The band has officially stated in interviews that no songs are off limits, so anything could happen. HOWEVER, I have a feeling they won't be playing The Best of Times or the 12SS in it's entirety anytime too soon though.

my personal edit includes the intro of The Root of All Evil in full, because i think a listener deserves a 'breather' after 25 minute of heavy metal, before, well, another portion of heavy metal...and because of the fact that this synthesized intro is later revisited at the very end of The Shattered Fortress... Then after Repentance i also include full intro of TSF - without the fade-in, since i use the beginning of the instrumental edit from bonus disco of BC&SL

Agreed. The transitions were well done, I do give credit for that, but I think it would have been possible to do transitions without cutting them as much. They were written to connect after all. But hey, I'm just nitpicking, there's only about a minute missing out of almost an hours worth of music. Still pretty awesome.

+Miguel Alejandro Vergara It occurs to me, that you're missing the point of a 12 step program. You've probably never struggled with facing yourself, and all the things you might have done wrong. Context is everything. The song never made as much sense as it does in this suite. Grow up. Or don't.
@MiguelVergaraK8 жыл бұрын
Bill Wallace Nah, man. I like all kinds of music, but the song is just bad to me. Sounds half assed. It´s not because it´s slow, it´s because it´s bad IMO.
