Must be at least 10 years since ive listened to this. Can't believe I still remember all the words considering I haven't even thought of it in a decade!! Takes me way back to being in high school. Like you care. Hope you are doing well anyways. I don't know you, but with taste in music this good you are probably a really cool person. Have a great day whoever you are!

Awake is CRIMINALLY underrated. It is my favorite after SFAM. It is a poetic, technical but emotionally evocative experience and also a fine moment for Kevin Moore

Had no clue this was ever "1 song," as it was never titled that way like Six Degrees, at least not on some streaming platforms.
@147pablox4 жыл бұрын
Well, it isn't. It's a "suite" consisted of three different songs.
@DamienDrake4 жыл бұрын
I'd say they're three movements of the same suite.

its in the linear notes on the cd, thats pretty much the only reference of it i know

I didn't know either, glad I do now.
@stringunderhacker2 ай бұрын
Idk if it's a *song*/suite in the same way Six Degrees is, but it's definitely not a "suite" in the sense of The Twelve Step Suite. It's more connected than The Twelve Step Suite but a bit looser than the Six Degrees song. However they have often played Mind Beside Itself in it's entirety

when i saw them live on this tour and they said they were celebrating this albums 20th and metropolis pt 2s 15th i was hoping i would hear this suite but they played pretty much every song on the album after the suite and was really disappointed, but then again i saw them live for 3 hours of greatness so i guess my only complaint was that they did not play every single one of their songs.
@147pablox10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was hoping that too. I think the reason for not playing the whole suite was that they've already played The Silent Man on the previous tour, and the setlist doesn't have songs they've played on it... Maybe next tour. EDIT 2021: Ok, maybe next tour! (Whenever that might be :/)

I consider this their first epic tbh
@fakedust31507 жыл бұрын
There was a 17 minutes long version of change of seasons that was going to be on images and words but the studio said it was to long so they performed it live during live shows for images and words and awakes tours and then the fans pressured them to record the song properly in studio so it evolved into the 24 minute epic that was released. In short that original 17 minutes was there first epic in my opinion.
@arty48106 жыл бұрын
metropolis part 2 was originally gonna be a 20 minute epic

That is the thing with suites with instrumental intros. They're almost always called "overtures" and present some melodies of the entire suite (or almost the entire suite)
@deepenwadhwa40275 жыл бұрын
Can someone please explain the deeper meaning behind this entire suite? I have an idea but still not completely sure. The songs individually make sense, how they work together (the lyrics) begs the question of a deeper meaning.

QUIERO ESA REMERA
@mvunit36 жыл бұрын
This track always hits me personally, and has the perfect aggression and melodic/quieter parts at the right time with the lyrics. And LaBrie emotes the right balance of emotions at the right times. The lyrics of Petrucci is a style I miss, its understandable, but esoteric as well, much like Moore and Portnoy's words on other tracks on the album. But the words: "Do you feel you don't know me anymore? And do you feel I'm afraid of your love? And how come you don't want me asking? And how come my heart's not invited? You say you want everyone happy Well, we're not laughing. And how come you don't understand me? And how come I don't understand you? Thirty years say we're in this together So open your eyes. People in prayer for me Everyone there for me Sometimes I feel I should face this alone My soul exposed It calms me to know that I won't!" . . . Hit home. I've lived those lyrics (and "Lie") - The last few lines hit me in the gut. The Awake album is awesome, I probably listen to a track or 2 every week since the album debuted.
@147pablox3 жыл бұрын
Those lyrics are from Scarred!
@mvunit33 жыл бұрын
@@147pablox - yup, you are right! For some reason I got mixed-up with "Scarred" and this one. Maybe I had 2 windows up from the same album :/. (a reply from a 3 year old comment . . . that took a long time to catch the mistake ;).
@147pablox3 жыл бұрын
@@mvunit3 Ikr! Yes, I was watching this vid again after a while, and meanwhile reading the comments and I guess for some reason didn't get to yours before. But yes! I agree with you there. DT has a lot of very emotional lyrics that one can easily relate to, and the main responsible of that is JP. I like LaBrie style too, with songs like Disappear or Vacant and now with At Wit's End he totally proved that he can also write some deep and personal lyrics.
