bro that was great and u definitely have the feel. nothing sterile about it. on a different note, why does it make a difference if you use triggers or not? don't you still have to play the parts? why do people think it's like cheating or something? can someone explain?
@PanosGeoCovers5 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot, mate! I appreciate it! You still have to play the parts with triggers, but it becomes a lot easier when it comes to dynamics, because no matter how soft or hard you hit it will still trigger the same sound. So that's what some people find cheating. I don't use triggers myself, but I can see why they are very helpful (or even necessary) in some styles. For example, if you play really fast double bass the sound starts to get muddy (especially if you only have one bass drum and use a double pedal). The trigger gives you a more clear attack in that situation.

I know I really don't have too much drum content on youtube. but I have some extensive experience in the percussion world. By far one of the better Home covers I have seen. with the audio and the video editing. my compliments come with some constructive criticism as well. first off I can't tell if you were playing with a click or the audio track. it's preference. but in a song like this I would lean more toward hearing the audio track as supposed to the click because the tempo fluctuates so much. and dependant on whether or not you were doing a click or an audio track could lead to the tempo issues you had throughout. they were not bad by any stretch of the imagination. I have run into issues like this as well. having a frame of reference when covering ANY of dream theaters songs are EXTREAMLY important unless your either of the Mike's associated with dream theater. One thing I would also say is that during the phrases where your on that same crash right in front and to the right. I would have put a darker crash there. and let the lighter crashes be the accents and the color in the phrases where there are several different crashes in it. I hope you recive this well and keep doing what your doing!

Thank you so much for the comment and the feedback, my friend! I really appreciate it! I bought the backing track from jammit while it was still running, so I was listening to the drum-less track plus jammit's metronome. That metronome isn't very stable, so I focused more on the track, indeed. But this particular track had some issues as well. James LaBrie's vocals were a bit earlier than the original song. Check again the parts where you thought that there's a timing issue and you'll find that I am very well synced to the guitar and bass riffs, but maybe the vocals coming earlier throws you off. As for the crash, I definitely agree with you sound-wise. I just used the exact same setup for all of the covers that I recorded in those few days!
@norwaydude69 жыл бұрын
There's something different about the vocals... But it doesn't sound like a live performance? Am I imagining things?
@PanosGeoCovers9 жыл бұрын
+norwaydude6 I purchased the backing track from Jammit.com. I think it's the original studio version, only without the drums. I'm playing live on top of that, though, so maybe this is what confuses you.
@uglyguitarguy8 жыл бұрын
The vox are definitely misaligned from the original release.
@PanosGeoCovers8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I heard that too! And it really messed me up (groove-wise) during the recordings! But still, I think it's the original studio recording, only not synced correctly!
@wiktormaek51987 жыл бұрын
Whole track is from live version. LaBrie is off key most times and there is only one guitar. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIGWcqlunc57hLc For this song there are stems on internet actually.
