"The Dance of instrumentals" they say. I would say "The Dance of Geniality".
This is a tribute to one of the best gathering of musicians of all times. The best progressive band ever. Myung only version.

I just cant understand the amount of data stored in Myung's memory, I mean, at least Jordan has his tablet but Myung only has his memory and he effortlessly plays like a god. He and Petrucci are far beyond our reality
@rod-abreu
@rod-abreu Жыл бұрын
That's mostly mechanical memory that comes into place when you play a lot, and rehearse a lot, and DT jam and rehearse a lot together before the gigs. Real memory just needs to be accessed when/if you commit a mistake and need to recover fastly, but in this case, the impressive part is that DT basically do not commit mistakes while playing, they are monsters.

its muscle memory.... i do gigs part-time (1-3 times a year) but almost never misses to play at home for at least 30-minutes daily, and i can probably play a couple of albums worth of songs by memory... so what more for a professional full-time musician who doesn't have to do a 9-5 job and can just work on their skills and techniques all-day 😅

As a bassist I have to say Myung's right hand technique is quite incredible in its efficiency. You wouldn't know he's playing and plucking strings if saw his 3 right hand fingers in isolation, it's so effortless and relaxed.

I have recently come to the conclusion that John Myung is a long haired Buddha, having reached enlightenment at a young age, he now has a transcendental understanding of the universe and its inner workings far beyond what any human in the material world can comprehend. Myung knows that spoken words have little meaning in the spiritual realm, and only lead to bickering any hatred amongst the many creeds of life in the universe, so he prefers silence, opting instead to spread his message of perfect (shredding) harmony, beauty, and understanding through his bass playing.

He's such a reserved player for a bass player in a technicall prog metal band and i mean that in a compliment. Like for their whole career I've always wanted to hear more Myung feature moments because I feel like he could do something explosive. But watching this he just perfectly nails everything, doesn't need to have the spotlight moments. What a player.

Amulya Shekhar Are you kidding me? Primus is massive, Dream theatre is fucking fantastic, dont get me wrong, but when it comes to success, primus has them trounced. primus is probably the most influential underground metal act out there. Primus hold at least three braziers to DT's candle.

Myung is a machine. They all are. Flawless. Effortless. John makes it look easy. As does Mike. Perfection. That's what this is. The top of the top. That's what they are. They all set a new high for their instruments. And together, they bounce their gifts off of each other bringing out their best. Their notes ringing together into one perfectly divided and perfectly tonal progression of sound. Pure elation for our sound sense. Near perfection on earth. That's what this is.

Probably he felt nothing since he was working with his own side projects: Platypus and The Jelly Jam. They recorded Liquid Tension to strees out all the frustration they were having during the proccess of recording Falling into Infinity and seeing the producers trying to make Dream Theater a more comercial band. I believe two albuns were a cry of mixed anger and relieve for them. Also, because of LTE, some yeras later, they got RUdess.

you can see this whole band as an inspiration, also the works for LTE, but following all of them one by one shows their outstanding brilliance over and over. I started as a lover of Petrucci in 2009, now i am here for Myung

He literally doesn't play (misses) a note in the video, are you gonna sue him for that? such overdub. mate, go listen to them live and then tell me how much they overdub stuff. He's played that bass solo so many times (even in representations/lessons) that he can ace it with his eyes closed. Other than that, they're all humans, they all make mistakes, so overdubbing minor mistakes is never bad. Those minor mistakes do not impact the show at all, trust me - I can assure you of that since I've seen them live myself.

He played those part with swaping finger technique, it will earn sustainable sound of the note, you could see him in 3:21 he used the same technique, so no overdubb after all

@@dk_2405 No, that was fixed later in the studio. Notes G and A # should sound, but it clamps completely different and does not hit the timing.
