99.9% of dream theater songs are do-able on a 5 string though, the only reason to need a 6 string is in the top frets of the C string which are rarely used, everything else can be written around on the G string

You're gonna need thicker guage strings first. Stock strings won't do it, guessing this is drop A So the tuning would be AEAD but that way you won't have the top G, my sugestion would be to play anything lower than a low E an octave up, or get a 5 string

im probably late, it is playable on 4 string an octave higher, and also back then when i used to play it, i would alternate between two and three a lot.

@@TheSuperdude60 to 100% play it, it is impossible on a 4 string unless you use thicker gauges and weird tunings. I'd recommend getting a 5 or 6 string for Dream Theater songs. As for the playing itself, it is playable with 2 fingers if you practice your speed, but you can use 3 if it's more comfortable for the faster bits.

What is it about frantic baselines that convey neurosis and psychological stress so we’ll? Both Hysteria and Panic Attack have similar themes and they both have difficult, fast, kind of labyrinthian baselines that just communicate the theme of “I’m going fucking insane” so perfectly. They’re just so…cerebral and winding, I guess?
