If you haven't already, the next Dream Theatre song to listen to is Take the Time. Even better than Pull Me Under and I love them both. So good. Listen to Yes Heart of the Sunrise and understand why Rush and Dream Theatre are so good. Great inspirations. When you listen to Iron Maiden, obviously you need to listen to The Trooper, but their best song is Revelations. I promise you that you will love that song. Best Iron Maiden song ever. Dream Theater were very influenced by Iron Maiden so that's a great band to get into. I'd also recommend some of the "OG" metal bands along with Iron Maiden, like Black Sabbath, Dio, Judas Priest. Dream Theater started in the late 80s with this album being their second one in 1992, so we also have some contemporary metal bands around that time like Metallica, Megadeth, Tool, etc. The list goes on. There is no shortage of metal to listen to and each decade essentially brings a new flavor of bands and subgenres so there's always something for everyone

Welcome to dream theater, a band of great variety. Everyone will recommend individual songs (not a bad thing) but I would recommend the 12 step suite. The original (and now current) drummer (Mike Portnoy) wrote what he calls the 12 step suite, which is his story of going through AA. The twelve steps are written across five songs in different albums. "The Glass Prison" (which has already enthusiastically been recommended) contains the first three parts of the Suite ("Reflection", "Restoration", and "Revelation"). If you want to do more dream theater, I always recommend those songs in order as a good variety en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve-step_Suite?wprov=sfla1

Mike Portnoy was the original drummer and founding member. He left in September 2010 to do a few other projects (Long story short.). He just returned last October 2023. This will be the premiere lineup IMO. Jordan Rudess was not their original keyboardist, but he is the best on the planet. In fact, I have always said that both individually and collectively, that the guys in Dream Theater are the best musicians on the planet. They can play ANYONE else’s music with ease. I shied away from this band for years. So, I decided to give them a go and tried to keep an open mind. Yes, the drummer, Mike Portnoy, is amazing. He was the highlight for me. But overall, I hear what the critics say about them. Technically, they are talented, no doubt. But it's kinda formulated and soulless. It was ok, but not something I'd go out of my way to listen to. I guess there's an audience for this type of stuff, it sounds like Metallica with some prog sprinkled in. Iron Maiden? Ughff...I guess if you must. I hope this doesn't turn into a Metal channel. If you want to hear something loud, try Dinosaur Jr., a 90s band. It's messy, sloppy, and the vocals are off, all in a good way. It's raw, but fun. Too much pretentious Metal gets boring after awhile. Prog bands from the 70s were pretentious, but they had humor and whimsy which made them fun and interesting. Just saying...US Roadie 1signing off.
