I love this song so much, prime example of what Kevin Moore brought to the band. Now, about the next song, Metropolis Part 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper. You will notice that a couple songs in the album Metropolis Part 2 (especially Home and The Dance of Eternity) hide some musical and lyrical references to Metropolis Part 1. I'll be impressed if you spot them all. It's also a masterpiece of a song, so I'm excited to see your thoughts on it!

It took me quite a while to get into Rush as well. I tried and I tried and it never quite "clicked" with me. Eventually it just hit me, now I love all of their albums from 2112 all the way up to Signals with all my heart. Don't worry, one day you'll be unassumingly trying to like them again and *snap*, it will get to you.

This is an underappreciated song... "In the end he only sees the change light to dark dark to light light to dark dark to light" You are coming up on the big boy songs of this album now. Metropolis part one will change your musical life :) Learning to live is one of if not my favorite DT songs. Amazing Lyrics. Thanks as always for your reviews.

Some Dream Theater songs are "growers" like that...They are supposed to make you go "uh?"...before you go "oooOOOOHH"....But those usually end up being the ones you appreciate the most in the end....Brace yourself for Metropolis pt.1 ... If this song made you go insane with time-signatures, pt.1 will knock you off your boots xD

I see that Metropolis Pt. 1 is next and Under a Glass Moon, man, those two are gauntlets of prog masterpieces. Also, if ever you do Learning to Live, do Wait for Sleep with it. It bleeds to each other, and WfS is considered an intro to LtL. So you might ask, 4th week of Images and Words with only one song (Learning to Live) huh? Well, A Change of Seasons was supposed to be on the record, but was vetoed by the record company saying it would make the record too long (it's long as it is). If ever you want that as the second song for DT Thursday, feel free to do so.

So Metropolis is next??? Wait until you get to Under a Glassmoon AND Learning to Live. Now by Learning To Live you HAVE TO listen to the lyrics written by their bass player, These lyrics are about the threat of AIDS, which was on everyone's mind in the late 80s - early 90s The opening lines from the song are a direct lift from the book Atlas Shrugged by noted author Ayn Rand. Enjoy the ride man!

You have to keep in mind that they needed to sell albums because of pressure from their record label. This was early dt so they didn't have as big of a fanbase. Its probably why this song is more repetitive. It's not their most sophisticated work by a long shot.
