Its a feel thing...you would lose the groove trying to count the whole thing and play it. Alt picking does the counting for you in a lot of parts, some parts are definitely counting the down beat though. Play LOTS of Dream Theater tunes along with the record and you'll get it...the hardest thing about Dance is the unique shapes of the left hand, not the timing. Its not as impossible as you'd think. Even I struggled to count this. 😜
@xmm82995 жыл бұрын
So, I had to cover this song for a school show, and while I didnt nail it 100% I did do a very tight cover I think. My advice for the song is, well, not counting at all the 10/16 and 17/16 and similar 16 parts, they have all only 16th notes in them so you just play the riff until you run out of notes (you go through every single tone) and then you go to next riff. 4/4 to 7/8 to 6/4 is countable, the main spike here is that 7/8 and you have to play that one by feel (since weird chord durations). Djenty part is not a hard one and solo is similar to x/16 riff parts, play notes until you run out of them. It is a hard and mindfucking song, but there are harder

How TF dream theatre write this kind of songs🤯
@jaidenxiong99964 жыл бұрын
Because of their egos. They want to show their musical prodigy, not to write simple and listenable song for general population. Have you ever noticed; every time they come with new songs, they are getting more complicated and harder for an average guitar player. This guy can play John’s pieces, he is considered top of the ladder already, except he probably doesn’t have enough money or sponsorship to get him out to people. I bet he is already in a local band making fame for himself. KZbin is another way to get his message to the world without having large sponsors.
