Funny you say it sounds like multiple songs, because it kind of is. The drummer (Mike portnoy) wrote what he calls the 12 step suite, which is his story of going through AA. The twelve steps are written across five songs in different albums. "The Glass Prison" contains the first three parts of the Suite ("Reflection", "Restoration", and "Revelation"). If you want to do more dream theater, I always recommend those songs in order as a good variety en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twelve-step_Suite?wprov=sfla1

The chorus at 6:02 reminds me of King's X. The harmonies do a little but the syncopated arpeggios are what really remind me of Ty Tabor's guitar style. Dream Theater features King's X vocalist and bass player, dUg Pinnick, on vocals in the song "Lines in the Sand". It's worth a listen as well as King's X. All these guys are such musical talents it's nuts.

Always love seeing Dream Theater reactions. I don't know if you've heard "The Great Debate" yet, but it is from this same album and it is the most "Tool" sounding song that DT has ever written. Rock on!

One of my favorite bands ever, based off sheer talent and entertaining shows. Count of Tuscany, Lost Not Forgotten, and Blind Faith are among my favorites from the band… But my favorite guitar solo has got to be Under A Glass Moon

The white noise at the beginning segues from the end of the previous album Metropolis Part 2. That's a whole other can of worms worth getting into. It will blow your mind inside out.

This song is split into 3 sections 1. Reflection 2. Restoration 3. Revelation. This is the first song of the 12 Piece suite. 2 This dying soul from Train of Thought 3 The root of all evil from Octavarium. 4. "Repentance" from Systematic Chaos 5. "The Shattered Fortress" from Black Clouds & Silver Linings.

Oh nice, you listened to one of the ones I suggested! If Pull Me Under, As I Am, and The Glass Prison are your reference points, then if you want to hear another side of DT, you can try Lines In the Sand. It's unlike what you've already heard and comes from an underrated album. There's many sides to Dream Theater.

This song is the first of five songs that spin five albums dealing with alcoholism. It’s the first step of the 12 step suite the second song is this dying soul off of the train of thought album the third one is the root of all evil from the Octavarium album. The fourth is called repentance off of black clouds and still repentance off of systematic chaos and the fifth is the shattered fortress off of black clouds and silver linings. They’re all different songs, but they have recurring themes so there’s parts that you will remember from each one.

Wow what an awesome song! This is the Dream Theater I was looking for back when I lost touch with them. This is from the first album that I missed out on, had I heard it then I would have stuck with them. By way of explanation, back in the 90's when all my friends were into grunge, I discovered this band that no one knew about and no one cared called Dream Theater. I thought I was some freak in my own world that didn't fit in with what everyone else was into. Interesting that all these years later I find out that this band has a following and I can find folks that actually wear Dream Theater shirts and know who they are. Cool! But after really enjoying the albums Image And Words (by far my favorite), Awake, and Falling Into Infinity, I kind of drifted away from the band after the Metropolis part 2 album. Sorry DT fans, but I just didn't like that album very much. I seem to be going against the grain of the fanbase regarding that album, but its just the way it was for me. I was looking for another Images And Words and kind of got the impression that their best days were behind them, so I kind of forgot about them after a while. I might try some of the stuff that they have done since then, there have been quire a few albums made, and recently I heard that Mike re-joined the band.

I kind of took your same path but only really enjoyed "Pull Me Under". I have this platform now to rediscover them. Thanks for watching.
