@MovPeristaltico As I Am is written by Petrucci considering it is about when Dream Theater toured with Queensryche and Queensyche's fill in guitarist tried to give Petrucci "tips" on playing guitar and obviously this pissed thy lord petrucci off

I do have to say that Mangini's drumming is actually better than Mike's here... it's little bit of a surprise since it is "Mike's" song... the song sounds really great here... better then when I saw them 2005 in Sthlm... long time fan here... 18 years and clocking... seen them 4 times live, last time was this january in denmark :-D

The problem with Mangini is, just humor me for the rest of this post...the drummer has now caught up to the talent level of the rest of DT. Because his ability is on a whole different level from Portnoy, I agree, he does lack the stage presence that MP had. If you watch the videos from him joining to the end of the tour though, his personality is growing. The analogy is, Aaron Rogers can throw a ball 60yds down field with a flick of his wrist, I can too...with a running start and a gust of wind.

Does JM always move so much? Because I don't recall seeing him move like that since DT early days
@gkl5gkl511 жыл бұрын
correct me if I am wrong, but weren't the lyrics also partly inspired by how their record label at the time wanted to take dream theater in a more radio-friendly direction with shorter songs and more "catchy" choruses which obviously the band refused? I am not sure at all about this, just something I heard!

Im sorry i find Mangini drum efforts very generic. There are times you can here differences in certain parts of this song that Portnoys power is dearly missed. Sorry just see it that way

I suspect you don't really have much of a clue. One thing that Portnoy even says himself was that he was coming to the end of his creative ability with Dream Theater and felt he was recycling parts of his own style and doing it too much. He wanted time off to re-energize. "Very Generic"? He's emulating Portnoy as much as he can. He even says so. If he's trying to emulate another musician and you think its generic then what does it say about who he's emulating? Some people just have no clue..

Please dont give me i dont have a clue i have been a fan of Dream Theater for many years so Mr expert I disagree Portnoy blows this guy away. Mangini during some songs just doesnt cut it. Portnoy drum solo vs Mangini drum solo umm who wins Mr music expert (Not!) stop being insulting calling people they dont have a clue and look in the mirror.......
@SPKcrow12 жыл бұрын
During what songs though? Mangini is doing nothing but playing Portnoy's parts on every song other than the new album. I agree with @ghaliboy.....MM is trying to emulate MP in the band, while adding his own flair. As for the drum solo comment, if you find Portnoy endlessly trading 4's with his hands and feet, doing nothing different...ever....entertaining, all the power too you. But you're forgetting that there's a reason why MP stopped doing solos, he isn't good at it, and that is his quote
@dave181212 жыл бұрын
Imagine how Mike Portnoy will react, when he finds out, that they played a song of his 12 Steo Suite. But it would still be cool to see the entire thing from Glass Prison, up to The Shattered Fortress
@ZackAttack179811 жыл бұрын
Mangini can play the song right... He just doesn't have the same energy or power as portnoy, I don't know if he ever will

the lyrics are so attached to Portnoy's life, they should not be playing this life... anything from the 12 step suite... it just makes me sad...
