"DreamBound: a Kirby RPG Prequel" is a pixel art fan game based on the untold tales which happened before Kirby's Dream Land.
You'll follow little Dedede and his friends on their journey to stop Dark Matter with the Dream power of the Star Rod! Its battle system is a mix between Mother 3 and Paper Mario.
This is actually just an animation, not a real game, but if you've been fooled by watching it, well, I'm glad the illusion worked!

[Lost Demos]
Here's a compilation of short demos coming from various bits of the story! Note they're not put in chronological order!
0:00 - Main Menu
This one is simply the main menu of the game, presenting all the sub-games and mini-games. Each proper Kirby game needs those, it's a tradition!
0:19 - Legend of the Pink Warrior
This is the demo that happens the soonest in the game. This legend is central to the plot, as Lilili will think Meta Knight is the pink hero! Ironically, this legend was actually foreseeing the arrival of Kirby years later.
0:40 - Game Over
What happens when you die in DreamBound? You get a reference to Revenge of the King!
1:26 - Vs. Yggy Woods
The team finally arrives in Dream Land, but the forest is in havoc! Some strange purple poison is plaguing the woods! The young Whispy Sprout calls for help, but he seems a bit too reckless for his age...
1:43 - Flying to Floralia
After being separated from the rest of his friends, Dedede stumbles upon Sectonia, a resident of the distant kingdom of Floralia. After earning respect from Princess Kracko, he decides to help her new friend! Maybe he'll be remembered as the hero of Dream Land for years to come!
2:04 - Orange Desert
Before being a sea, these dry lands were burning under the sun. After reuniting with Meta Knight, Dedede must rescue Lilili from the Skull Gang! They are plotting a ritual that would make the sun go away...

Flying to Floralia segment "Maybe he'll be remembered as a hero for years to come!" And then in Triple Deluxe, many, many years later, Taranza mistakes Dedede for the hero of Dream Land that Sectonia is looking for... Oh my god... what a detail... ❤❤❤❤

Absolutely impeccable! Honestly I could see this as a legitimate pitch for HAL Labs as there's so much incredible potential for a whole-blown prequel this incredibly animated! Also all these young versions of Dedede/Meta(?)/Sectonia and more are just so goddamn adorable - I hope we'll see more of them from you!

The Game Over screen in _Dreambound_ pretty much foreshadowed his defeat as Masked Dedede in _Revenge of the King_ from _Kirby Super Star/Deluxe,_ which is a neat touch besides Dark Matter (in a form of an eye) watching the poor young Dedede walking away into the sunset.

I love this whole world you're building, Oniri! A prequel to the Kirby franchise which sees Dedede become the hero the waddle dees know him as is such a brilliant idea, I can only imagine it hasn't been done officially because it'd take the spotlight away from Kirby... which isn't a bad thing, but commercially I don't see it ever happening :(

Oh no, that cutscene with Sectonia and Dedede, knowing what happens with that whole mirror situation... And the description, with Dedede being predicted to be remembered as the Hero of the Lower Land... oh no. I love how all these little scenes and setups are so cute in the moment and then you remember what's going to happen to everyone. Amazing work as always!

I’m sure there’s some real dedicated heroes out there who’d love to pitch in to this idea that you have and all the love behind it. Great stuff as always, Whispy Sprout fighting in place of Lil' Dedede is cute, and wonder what that anger status effect Lilili has would do. The tidbits of lore and story are really interesting, kind of wish it got turned into a game. Something else I was curious about I guess, know that Great Dee's DP represents the Waddle Dees supporting him, but how does that accumulate. Is it like over time, or would there be a skill that regenerates them?

Thank you! I had the idea the anger status makes her play by herself, so the player can't do anything until she calms down. This can creates some havoc during the fight! About DPs, there is a skill to regenerate them, but there's also an equipment that could do that over time!

@@OniriBoy Maybe DP for him could work similarly to FP in Mario RPG, where you can do little side quests to get more that can help in battle. It would make sense, your heroic actions have convinced more Waddle Dee’s to join you on your quest.

I do hope a programmer approaches you with the concept of fleshing this out into a playable experience, I think it would be lovely, but this is also a very cool concept for making demos of a game that doesn’t exist and putting your all into it!

Fantastic to see more of this project. Fantastic to also see it opening up immediately with bright and enthusiastic cheer; what a vibrant menu screen. 0:31 - Galacta Knight looking majestic as a stained glass artwork but also hilarious with his two thumbs up. 1:00 - Wonderful reference here. Oh how I wish this was an actual game. Your animation is so detailed and on point that it's hard not to think it is. 1:57 - This really does add another layer of tragedy to what eventually happens to Sectonia. Love all the small details such as the falling... I assume they are the dropping cloud moisture from the levels but they look like stars here with the nightly background.

Seeing this stuff makes me sad. Paper Mario kinda gave us this sort of deeper glimpse into the world of Mario. They could do the same with Kirby and Zelda. you just get more dialogue and stuff. RPGs offer a different perspective and focus. Perfect idea for spinoffs.
