One of 2016s most hyped and confusing games came out one year ago now. Let's look back at the many lies of No Man's Sky and ponder if this is all Sean Murray's mess or if evil marketing got the best of us in this rant!

No Man's Sky is an action-adventure survival video game developed and published by the indie studio Hello Games for PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows. The game was released worldwide in August 2016. The gameplay of No Man's Sky is built on four pillars: exploration, survival, combat, and trading. Players are free to perform within the entirety of a procedurally generated deterministic open universe, which includes over 18 quintillion (1.8×1019) planets, many with their own sets of flora and fauna.
Players participate in a shared universe, with the ability to exchange planet information with other players, though the game is also fully playable offline; this is enabled by the procedural generation system that assures players find the same planet with the same features, lifeforms, and other aspects once given the planet coordinates, requiring no further data to be stored or retrieved from game servers. Nearly all elements of the game are procedurally generated, including star systems, planets and their ecosystems, flora, fauna and their behavioural patterns, artificial structures, and alien factions and their spacecraft. The founder of Hello Games, Sean Murray, had wanted to create a game that captured the sense of exploration and optimism of science fiction writings and art of the 1970s and 1980s with No Man's Sky. No Man's Sky multiplayer patch. Atlus Rises update adds in 30 hours of story and multiplayer along with quick travel. No Mans Sky multiplayer.
Significant attention and expectations were given to the title in the months leading to its release, leading Murray and some journalists to recommend caution due to the indie nature and niche appeal of the title, seeking to avoid the pitfalls that had previously occurred at the launch of EA's Spore in 2008. At release, the game received a wide range of mixed reviews, with some praising the technical achievements of the procedurally-generated universe, while others considered the gameplay lackluster and repetitive. No Man's Sky also suffered several technical problems at launch, while lacking several marketed features, including a multiplayer element.

I totally agree that the first release was a shadow of what was promised, but given you had got 50 hours of play, how many hours of entertainment do you feel a game should give before you feel short changed? (Edited - I mistyped 60 originally)

Jason Fleming. Yes, but FIFTY hours, then another 10 after the first patch?? There are plenty of games that are totally completed in 20 hours. In my case, I got plenty of enjoyment, on release day starting with that day 1 patch then stopped, then it was patched A LOT more, and I got more hours, then another patch and more hours. If they finally bring in a decent end-game, I'll go back again but at the moment there isn't anything big to achieve. That said, it's still extremely limited in a lot of other ways compared to similar games.

The saddest part for me was I wasn't gonna buy it. I had nothing to do that night of launch and impulse buyed the game only 2hours before it unlocked. I spent 5 hrs on the first plant and over 15 in the first solar system. After that it all fell apart, each system became the same routine and the game devolved into simply looking for bigger inventory, bigger ship inventory all so I can hold more resources to get more inventory. No ending reward, no reward for my time, no reason to spend more time in the game.

He keeps saying 'they promised' What developer EVER says they promise anything? None. Sean was vague from the off regarding the game. He never promised anything. People these days are deeply offended by the slightest thing, including games that don't live up to their unreasonable expectations, like self absorbed, whiny children. I put in nearly 200 hours on NMS on it's initial PC release. The modding community was/is great and the game was and still is my goto chillout game that I never tire of. Provided you have some imagination, NMS is whatever you make of it.

I don't really believe that hello games is that money hungry, if you'd follow the ARG you'd see that they gave ALOT of free copies. They are also sending atlas passes to people, even paying for the shipping and creation of the passes. They really try to make the game how it once was.

While Hello Games is far from innocent, a great deal of the media were also very irresponsible in how they purposely took certain things Sean said out of context to cause more controversy. Many of these outlets really opened my eyes to how things work these days and what their bottom line is. The way some were hyping it didn't help either though.

I could perhaps be more forgiving if they had been more open and honest prior to and after publication, and apologized for the misinformation that they spread pre-launch. If they had directly said that they couldn't get all the promised features on launch, and that they are really sorry about it, but they will add them in later patches, that might have been a path for some forgiveness. But they didn't. The essentially hid from the world after launch, without giving any explanations or plans for the future, and most importantly, no apology of any kind for having lied about the product prior to launch.

@ThorVids 6 жыл бұрын
You spent 50 hours happily playing a dumpster fire of a game before anyone else was calling it a dumpster fire. Then the mob assigns you a different opinion and now you need to tow the line. To anyone who was paying attention, No Man's Sky was very close to what was advertised on launch. Yes, he apprehensively said there would be multiplayer twice that I can recall but several other times he described specifics of what he meant by that and described it accurately. Up to the day before it was released he warned people not to expect a multiplayer experience. I even remember a conversation I had with a friend I had before it came out about how it wouldn't be multiplayer. Am I able to predict the future or did I just pay attention and do my research? Fans of No Man's Sky turned it into a good game with their dedication; something the developers never had? Do you have any idea what it takes to make a regular video game with no innovative features? People working their asses off for 12-16 hours a day, sometimes 7 days a week for several years. No Man's Sky was a HUGE and impressive technical achievement by any measure. One which could only have been realized by way of love and dedication. Have any of you people ever put yourself in the shoes of a developer? You've just spent the last 5 years of your life working twice as many hours as most people, pursuing the Sisyphean task of bringing something into the world that no one has ever seen before. Your family and friends miss you because they never see you any more. You're tired. You're scared because you don't know if anyone is going to buy your game and then what would it all have been for. In the case of Hello Games, everyone has been projecting their own fantasies of what the game will be on the work you've been doing and you hope your game will be able to stack up against those fantasies. The game releases and all those peoples imaginary fantasies are shattered by the reality of your game and they're mad. Then the mob starts sharpening their pitchforks and oiling up their torches and suddenly the whole world is against you. You had been so looking forward to this day; the day the world could finally see something you made for them... and they hate it. Not only do they hate it, they hate you. You're actually famous, industry wide, for how much people hate you. What a cold, icy dagger to the heart that must feel like. But you paid $60, right? You deserve the best game in the world and if you don't get it, bitch and moan about it forever.

Ppl are just lemmings. The garbage "fake news" of game "journalism" irresponsibly hyped it up, Sony facilitated said hype for obvious reasons and Sean Murray, out of his depth but certainly sincere, spoke of features that werent fully integrated before time/money ran out. So in short, the low-info zombie hordes had insanely exorbitant expectations that the game had NO chance of meeting. The smart consumers HAD no expectations, watched gameplay BEFORE buying and CERTAINLY didn't preorder, and thus we avoided the ridiculous, cult-like hatetrain-brainwashing. Its a great game made by a small team of ambitious indie devs. It isnt for everyone, certainly. I play it and elite lately. The free updates are amazing and show Sean's commitment and character, when he could just taken all that money and moved on. These bitter haters are retarded cucks.

+Gizmo9969. You make an awful lot of assumptions. We get it, you like the game, I do too. The fact is though, people have every right to be angry about being sold a product that A) wasn't finished and B) didn't play as advertised. The new patch being released just about gets the game up to what it was supposed to be on launch, which means in reality, this game was sold almost a full YEAR before it was ready. They could have saved themselves all the aggro if they had released it as an early access game at a cut price but they went for the full hog and RIGHTLY were heavily criticised for the product they released.

The game has been updated with missions, land vehicles, portals, base building, freighters with mini-bases where you can build stuff, new weapons, as well as better terrain generation, and it gets even more beautiful with every update. There's even the infancy of multiplayer in there now. They're working on getting us the game they promised. If you want to customize your experience, there are buckets of mods out, that shape almost all the aspects of the game. Even higher resolution textures, massive alien structures, (soon) space whale, new ships (I had Invader Zim's Voot Cruiser in the Pathfinder patch; now I'm waiting for that mod to be made compatible with 1.33). There's a VERY dedicated modding community, and you're very welcome to join the Discord, where there is tonnes of help to find, to get you started.

No Man's Sky has actually gotten much better since it's release. If the developers never had any dedication it wouldn't have, it wouldn't have. I think they wanted the game to be amazing, just bit off more than they could chew and fell way short. But really a lot of games release pretty bad and then have dedicated developers that manage to make them better down the road... Seems to be a running theme with the Diablo games lol

Being a programmer, I heard someone talking about the game, its scale and level of detail, and how it would be revolutionary. He was very hyped to say the least, so I told him to send me some articles and videos, already skeptical. Due to the issue with high quality and true procedural content generation being difficult to achieve, especially on this size and his assumption that the entire universe would be saved with the same level of detail all around, I knew something was awry. I told him the issues technologically about the game, and when it released I sat back and watched the Steam Store. I think the crime is not in the lap of Hello Games or Sean Murray, but rather all the other large developers who were quiet. In my opinion, this will be a great stepping stone for other big publishers to authenticate their own versions of "No Man's Sky" if we don't discourage fixing and further developing games post-release. Early access and completely broken games need to be unacceptable in the mind of consumers for this to really hit home with publishers. Developers need to keep an eye out for peer fraud or our reputation will continue to be tarnished.

If some players don’t get NMS that’s fine. The game isn’t meant for everyone, but there are many of us who love the game, flaws and all. For players who have an imagination of their own, who don’t need everything spoon fed to them the game is far better than its detractors could ever realise. NMS is a sandbox for your own narrative, with an underlying tale that you can explore or not as it suits you. There are few if any mission markers, no goals except those you set yourself, and you get to play in the most beautifully realised game universe ever created. Those who persist in the mythology that the game is repetitive or boring miss the whole point of the game, and clearly haven’t understood the first thing about the nature of the game they are criticising. If you wander around as if the game is Skyrim or Minecraft you could play it for a thousand hours and never find out what it is. NMS is a technical and creative masterpiece, far, far ahead of its time, and if you don’t get that then the failure is yours not the devs. “Oh, the hype let me down. Promises were broken!” There were no promises and the hype was mostly in your own head. HG repeatedly said the game would not be for everyone, but it would be loved by those it was meant for, and that’s exactly what happened. So, the wider gaming community didn’t hear that but managed to come to the conclusion that the opposite would be the case. Somehow “it’s not for everyone” turned into “it’s for everyone”. We heard pundits say NMS would be the best space shooter, the best FPS, the best 4X, the best walking sim, the best resource management game, the best on line game and so on. We heard it would beat Minecraft, Elite, Star Citizen and any other game that happened along. Two years before release we were shown a trailer, and the devs were crucified for making a game that looked different. Two years. Very few games are faithful that far out. There was never going to be a standard multiplayer engine. How could there be? HG repeatedly tried to get the point across, but every time they did their statements were taken out of context and reported as the very opposite! Even when they explicitly stated exactly what was in the game, they were held to previous statements from much earlier phases of development. Launch day issues were a problem, but that is very much in the past now and the game has been significantly updated since, to the point where it is now unparalleled in the breadth and scope of its vision and execution. If you don’t like/get it, that’s fine, but please don’t try to tell those of us who enjoy it immensely that we are somehow wrong.

Illusion - How about you imagine you are a reasonable human being who can allow others to enjoy what they want without having to stick your nose in? If you have a reasonable point to make that doesn't involve insulting the intelligence of people who think differently from you, then let's hear it. But until then I will treat your comment with the same contempt you obviously hold for mine. Are we winning yet?

here's why i always saw multiplayer (the allegedly biggest scam) as nex to impossible from the second they announced the game: you have to be really really naive to think you could find someone in a galaxy with 5 quitillion explorable star systems... it's a matter of sheer probability, and even if both player knew where and when it would be a really limited gameplay. Most of us who still play remained because it's a great survival/exploration/discovery game with a few shooter hints here and there. If you ask me, NMS has an amazing procedural engine and the terrain generation is mindblowing, sure there is still a certain lack of variety in terms of animasl and plants, and sure some bugs, but otherwise it's a good game, albeit, not for everyone.

I waited until it was 60% off, so I am not upset at the lies, because I didn't experience the first run. I actually installed it 24 hours before Atlas Rises dropped, so I had to restart because my happy temperate planet that I started on (pure luck) became a radioactive nightmare where I could only be outside my ship for 4 minutes at a time. That was not fun for learning the game. I am still learning, but enjoying it and my son is also playing (both PC).

Sean Murray never lied. Everything that was in the product description on Steam was in the initial release of the game. It clearly said it was Single Player about an inch to the right of the BUY button. I thought that Hello Games might have modified the game's features during its time on sale so I used the Wayback Machine to show me the first version of the webpage when it became available to -repurchase and it still said it was Single player. So, _No Man's Sky_ was never fraudulently sold as being a Multiplayer game. Was it talked about supporting player encounters? Yes, but a lot of things change during development for aesthetic, technical and business reasons. Maybe they tried it with multiplayer and found that people tried to find their friend rather than journeying to the centre to unravel the mystery of the Universe. Maybe they estimated that their servers could support a certain number of concurrent players without collapsing under the strain but the game received an unexpected number of preorders and they had to remove the feature in order to ensure player discoveries continued to work. There's a GDC video where Sean Murray talks about terrain generation where he admits that they incorrectly estimated the number of concurrent users. They thought it might sell as well as _Inside_ then Sony told them to regard it as if it were an AAA not an indie, so they looked at _Far Cry Primal's_ number of concurrent users on Steam, and then this proved to be an underestimate as they sold 2,000,000+

Poly-Rhythmic Octopoid Player Encounters were definitely promoted as being part of the game and Sean Murray discussed this with Stephen Colbert on his talk show so something drastic happened during development for this feature to be removed. It might even account for the delay before release which led to the staff of the studio receiving death threats. However, although they made a mistake in talking about features that got cut or delayed until later updates the fact remains that no one was mislead about what features were definitely in the initial release of the game as everything that was in the Steam product description for the whole time it was available to prepurchase was in the initial version of the game. No one was mislead and an investigation by the Advertising Standards Authority exonerated them, whilst Valve's policies against the use of concept art and visualisations in an ambiguous location on your store page so that they could be mistaken for screenshots and gameplay trailers did not affect Hello Games, but did affect Valve and their _DOTA_ page, as well as the highly respected CD Projekt RED and _The Witcher III: Wild Hunt_ which both had to change how they sold their games to avoid misleading consumers. _No Man's Sky_ may well be an atrocious 2/10 game that disappointed a lot of people who were looking forward to something truly unique and special, but the studio did not mislead anyone and Sean Murray never lied as he was telling the truth about his game at the time he was interviewed about it and he met Stephen Colbert one year before it released, and a couple of interviews he did just prior to release had him make it clear there was no multiplayer. He also said so on the official blog and in tweets and most obviously in the Steam product description at the point of sale where it was only ever sold as Singleplayer. Those complaining about the lack of Sandworms need to learn that all games change during development. _Mass Effect: Andromeda_ had a procedurally generated Galaxy with the ability to fly down and land on planets and the whole lot got cut. :-(

Man-Eating Bagel I expected to learn about an ancient race who created the Sentinels to ensure that those rare star systems that supported life would be protected from colonisation and exploitation by alien races in order to encourage the evolution of diverse civilisations out of what primitive creatures resided there. I thought that the monoliths would be collaboratively deciphered by the community to reveal the background lore of this ancient race and how millions of years later their descendants forgot that their ancestors had created these Sentinels and what their purpose was. As a result many chose to colonise planets that contained indigenous life and this provoked the Sentinels protecting them. Because the ancient race had made the Sentinels to last millennia by ensuring that they were able to self-replicate and adapt to new threats their descendants could never conclusively prevail in any battle and the war spread from the surface of the planets into space as the Sentinels pushed the descendants further back towards the centre of the Galaxy. Eventually, cornered and with no means of obvious escape, the descendants constructed an enormous structure around a star on the inside of which they built their final city. Made with similar technology to the Sentinels, the hull of this double pyramid shaped construction would repair itself when damaged by the unrelenting but futile attacks of the now formidable Sentinel battle cruisers, Stuck inside the descendants developed their science to the point where they were able to collapse the star beyond its Chandresekar limit overcoming its Pauli pressure to turn it into a semi-stable wormhole, where one end was gravitationally tethered to a point in this Galaxy, whilst the other end randomly flit between other large sources of mass in the Universe. They then took to their ships and went through the wormhole in small groups, unable to all travel to the same destination at once due to the nature of the wormhole. They all safely evacuated, but in their absence and with the stored power of the star all but gone it wasn't long before the Sentinels broke through the hull and found that the descendants had gone. Adaptation to their programming made them elaborate upon their original mission parameters and take over this installation and its city for use as a central information repository for all the creatures that were its responsibility to protect in the Galaxy. So, when you see a Sentinel scan something on a planet it is uploading the status of that creature to this central installation: the Atlas. Note that the Portals one finds on the planets were constructed by the ancients using similar short range wormhole technology to that used by their descendants to escape a Galaxy overrun by antagonised Sentinels. These have fallen into disuse and deciphering how to reactivate them would have depended upon an understanding of the ancient's symbolic language which used a base 16 number scheme rather then the base 10 we are familiar with from decimal numbers. Sixteen of these symbols are needed to specify another portal as your destination address as there are a total of 2^64 planets in the Universe each uniquely referenced by a single 64-bit number which divided by sixteen is 4-bits of information which is enough to represent a single base 16 number. Many random codes would reference planets but unless they have Portals built on them they won't work. Some may even lie in another Galaxy and permit on foot fast travel there if routed via the central semi-stable wormhole that still resides within the Atlas, but the periodicity of these codes working depends on the wormhole cycling through at least 256 other Galaxies so activation under these circumstances is fraught and Travellers may have to dial these long distance connections multiple times. Certain biomes may have been deemed sufficiently interesting by the ancients to have multiple Portals on them to permit fast travel to different regions on the same planet, so that the ancients could observe the evolution of the creatures there. Portals found on sterile planets are often the sign of a civilisation that evolved from amoeba only to wipe itself out in a catastrophic act of self annihilation. However, even nuclear holocausts cannot destroy the Portals which are made of a rare indestructible mineral that absorbs solar energy over time and converts it into the power needed to open stable singularities in gravitational vortices that we would term Einstein-Rosen Bridges. I therefore thought that having discovered all of this backstory by deciphering monoliths closer and closer to the centre of the Galaxy as the retreating descendants left behind tales of their war with the Aerons (as they called what we term the Sentinels), groups of Travellers would inevitably converge at the centre of the Galaxy and find the Atlas at the end of their Journey surrounded by Sentinels that were tasked to defend it from having its hull breached by aggressive civilisations out to discover the xenoarchaeological trove of knowledge that could propel their culture to another Galaxy. These Sentinels regularly repel attempts by the Vy'keen and Korvax to breach the outer hull and see what is inside. Eventually, after some trial and error your group of players will discover that the best way to breach the self repairing hull is to have one group split off and attack it whilst another keeps the protective Sentinels occupied at a safe distance. On making a hole more Sentinels will emerge, but this boss battle is not impossible and with patience the group of players can fly inside before the hole they have made gets automatically repaired and see the black event horizon of the wormhole against the backdrop of the distant city lights that envelops it. Those brave enough to enter it will emerge together in a randomly selected Galaxy, their ships intact and undamaged, free to colonise any planet they find, including those with indigenous life, as they will all be free of Sentinels. That is what I thought _No Man's Sky_ would actually be about with the end game opening up unrestricted PvE and PvP with territorial capture and the need for automated base defence so that your stuff didn't get stolen by other players when you were necessarily absent from the game. However, I believe that although multiplayer was implemented it got removed close to the game's release but before the title became available for preorder. Hence why it has always specified itself as being a singleplayer title on its Steam page for the entire time it was on sale. I checked this using the Internet Wayback Machine, but the page is no longer cached so you'll just have to take my word for it. They didn't sell any copies with it having multiplayer and then stealthily change the product description during the period of preorders or subsequently to cover their tracks and make out it had always been sold as singleplayer.

Continued... The reason for this incomprehensible feature removal and rushed substitute entirely unsatisfactory ending can be inferred from a recent GDC talk Sean Murray gave about the types of noise he used to make the terrain in the game. It is a long video but at one point he reveals that they originally estimated that they might sell as well as _Inside_ as they were an indie title and he showed a slide of the number of concurrent users of _Inside_ and I think it was 40,000. He then said Sony told them to prepare for it selling as much as a AAA so they looked at _Far Cry Primal's_ number of concurrent users and probably got servers capable of handling that peak load in multiplayer. Unfortunately, many more preordered and they justifiably panicked as this would likely lead their servers to collapse day one, which would not only transparently prevent people experience player encounters who might have otherwise done so, but prevent the upload and sharing of discoveries which was a much more often used feature of the game. In order to protect this and because Sean never took money from Sony to help make the game but funded it himself with a bank loan and through selling the house he had bought when a well paid employee working on _Burnout 3_ it is highly likely that Hello Games was running short of money anyway at the end of a long project with unanticipated scope creep and the option to pay for more server infrastructure (which is what a AAA studio would have done) wasn't financially viable. Consequently, player encounters were removed. I think it is probable that Joint Exploration is less than what they had implemented but they don't want to bring in full multiplayer straightaway as it will be glaringly obvious that the feature was cut. I don't get what they are nervous about as they never sold the game as being multiplayer and the last seen promotion of the feature was a year prior to its release during which a lot can change. As they messed up the story with this guff about everything being an inescapable simulation they may try to work around it by having the ancient race return to the game now the Sentinels have forgotten about them as being threats to the indigenous life forms they are programmed to protect, from another dimension rather than another Galaxy (as you can travel to those yourself). Before it would have been one Galaxy / Wormhole / Another Random Galaxy but now it seems that they have written themselves into a corner and the best that they can come up with is one Universe / Another Universe which could ultimately imply that the game is a much bigger Multiverse where travel is possible to other parallel Universes that don't contain Sentinels. However, all of this is speculation and I do not know for certain that the fourth race are the ancients who built the Portals or that you can use them to travel to other planets and other dimensions. It would be nice if a proportion were targeted to exit Portals within The Galactic Hub as that could stimulate social PvE play in future updates.

I bought the game on the promise of two things -- I could "set sail", pick a direction and explore, and there was a possibility I could find/meet other people. The first 2-3 hours was fantastic, getting my ship ready, getting the materials I needed to get into space, then BLAMO -- off into space I go. It was there that I realized flying on my own in a direction did nothing. Then came proof of no multiplayer. Thought this was a good video. I am actually one of those people who still plays No Man's Sky, I love it, my expectations were kept in check, yes I was a little disappointed that some of the stuff wasn't in the game but I've spent 443 hours into the game since launch and I've enjoyed every minute of it personally. A Lot of the things that people were complaining about that were lies are actually in the game now and Sean Murray publicly came out at GDC2017 in Feb. of this year that HG basically just ran out of money and ran out of time, which I think the flood contributed to that fact the studio suffered. I liked your video because it's good constructive criticism and not just out-right hate on the game and I totally understand how people who need to do reviews on a game need access to the game or at least info about the game so I totally understand where you are coming from for sure! Now I don't have any tattoos or anything, but I really do feel a lot of people completely missed the point of the game and what it was supposed to be about and in the same token I feel a lot of people also miss-took a lot of what SM stated completely out of context. Back in 2014 SM already stated that NMS was going to be about exploration, and later on through updates the game was going to be about other things as well as stating that the game wasn't going to have MP at launch, but sometime after, people can expect a more "traditional" MP experience and that was exactly what we got, just as an example. I think the fact they ran out of money, was probably the direct cause why they didn't have MP, as you need money to host servers. The game 1 year on though, Has bigger fleet battles now which was a major complaint, renaming ships, re-naming multi tools, owning freighters, base building are all in there which were some causes for the out cry, there are even ship classes now, and a very in-depth system with ship bonus's depending the role of ship you are flying! Faction standing DOES actually mean something now as having good standings with factions actually enables you to trade and buy Blue Prints and Technology from the various NPC's at stations and shops that you buy with money or a new currency "nanites." While it's not war'ing factions, it DOES however, now have purpose. Even Multi-Tools now has a class system with different specific bonus's on the different types of MT's you get... There is also some absolutely INCREDIBLE mods for the game now too....... Like a completely new Shader for the game and 3rd person ship views to name just 2. I'm sure you wont read it and I'm sure I'll get some hate, that's fine, but I just wanted to explain why someone like me! plays it and will continue to play it. I felt so much that people just simply didn't get it, that people complained about reaching the center of the galaxy and it just pissed people off. But in the grand scheme of things, from Sean's own mind, I felt that to him, after reaching the center and then being spun into a whole new galaxy, the discovery that there are 100s of other galaxy's out there, was in fact A VERY KOOL thing.... I just feel people just missed the point of that and were expecting some overlord god being in some sort of cinematic... There is LORE, there is some superb! lore in the game, but it doesn't spoon feed you it, you gotta go out into the universe and actually look for it.... Lot of the complaints were it was tedious, like the mining, but that was part of the survival of the game, minecraft has the same mechanic, EVE-Online has the same mechanic, but when it came to NMS, people just lost their minds because it was simply NMS. While MC does have a bit more purpose to it's mining mechanic, now that we build bases in NMS it makes a lot more sense to do this stuff, aswell as building tech requires you to mine for resources. I remember people complained that NMS just didn't have any purpose, but that is the point of a sandbox game, you literately make your own story, the planets you see, rename, the creatures, are all unique to you (while there was some issues in the beginning with the diversity in creatures and there still is) but that was the point in the exploration, you can go do, well, whatever and share your experiences with other people and the bugs in the game just made it that much more fun because some of them were just hilarious! There are Dino sized creatures in the game, and most people are still only in the first galaxy, there are 100s more out there, who knows what else was out there that no one ever saw. Your journey to the center was your own, you are going to come across things and see things that others wont and I feel that was the core of what NMS on launch, was all about..... Obviously not everything is in the game still from what we all kind of expected at launch, but the point is, there is a LOT! that actually is in the game now... and I hope my long ass comment kind of explains a little of what we, as a community, see in no mans sky that others just don't.... Sorry for the long comment.....................................................................................

Gentleman Gamer Sincere? Are you sure about that buddy? Yanderedev had quite a bit of dirt dug up on him. He's been found stealing assets from his volunteers, the most notable being a grass texture that was stolen by a volunteer who quit. When he's not working on the game he goes off streaming, with some rather questionable comments while on stream. Furthermore when it comes to criticisms about the game, he tends to deny the lot of it and act like a massive child on the internet. He's been reported by ex-volunteers to ask for some rather perverted textures to be out into the game. In my honest opinion fromthe research I did personally, the guys a massive scumbag. The game is supposed to be done by 2019, and he's hardly for the first rival finished. Many of the actual aspects of the game are just ripped from other franchises, such as Hitman's mission mode and Persona 5's school concepts and recently possibly even art style. As a developer, he hardly even codes the game. Many of the volunteers actually managr to write code, and from what we've seen YandereDev's code it atrocious and needed to be revised several times to fix glitches that made the game nearly unplayable. I have a lot more to say on this topic, but I'll leave it to you to see and research for yourself. This man isn't a good game developer, and the game is a honest mess of jumbled ideas with poor execution. prettyuglylittleliar.net/topic/1896-yanderedev-evaxephon/ yandere-simulator.deviantart.com/journal/What-s-going-on-with-Yandere-Dev-655317796 www.google.com/amp/s/amp.reddit.com/r/yandere_simulator/comments/5lsy9b/yanderedev_what_happened/ kiwifarms.net/threads/evaxephon-yanderedev-alex-mahan-alexander-stuart-mahan.19311/page-29

I wasn't really hyped, but wanted to give it a try. The 1st hour or so was really awe-inspiring, but after I got off the first planet it just hit a wall of boredom for me. I could only stomach about ten hours before I gave up.

I don't think any of the updates so far are 'huge'. It's mostly filler and doesn't address any of the major issues with the game. The base building is actually very tedious because it requires you to hop systems getting rare supplies just to get blueprints to even build rooms.

Unfortunate timing of this video since the near launch vision of the game is more or less in the patch that dropped today. You really should re-re-review this. I haven't played since launch and I'm very excited to play it again.

They released all of the patch notes with the statement that it changes the game. Whether or not the features they added/fixed made the game different enough is up to you, but they told you exactly what would be added/changed. I wouldn't consider that a lie.

Great video! Even with all the updates, I still feel like the biggest problem with NMS is fun factor. It simply isn't that enjoyable. One could easily play a game like Empyrion: Galactic Survival and see how, even in Early Access, it trumps NMS in almost every department. That being said, I'm going to download and buy every update to NMS as they come. There is a special spot in my heart for it for sure, and I can't seem to let go.

here's what I think happened, the build they had shown off from the start and at E3 onward was the build we were going to get and Sean was excited for us to play it when it finally released, however there was a flood in the hello games offices sometime during the middle of development and some of their equipment was damaged that being computers with the game data on them, due to this damage they lost a substantial chunk of the game and had to revert to an older build and polish it up as much as possible in order to get on to a disk for release day as the deadline was fast approaching, so instead of telling the public that there was an accident and the game would be greatly delayed Sean Murray continued to act like nothing happened and everything was sunshine and rainbows probably too embarrassed to tell us what had happened, thus is my theory about what went wrong. fortunately they are slowly but surely fixing the game with new patches and features however I don't think it will be entirely like what they had first shown off way back in 2015.

It was the cool the first time I took off and explored the first system. Cool the second system. Cool when I found an ice moon and water moon. But it ultimately fell apart when playing it was more of a chore than enjoyment. The constant mining to advance with no real rewards. I traded it within a month and haven't looked back.
