You recognized the pentagram at the end which most reactors missed. The concept of the video is basically the corruption of innocence through giving in to the selfish, narcissistic desires of the dark side of the self. Psychologist Carl Jung called it the Shadow Self. It's represented by the mirror which oozes black goop when Yoohyeon touches it. She was the first to fall into darkness, burning the spider as her first evil act. Dami found the spell book, which appears later in Good Night, and formed the girls into a coven. The cruel killing of the spider angered the Guardian Spirit of Spiderkind and she removed the girl's souls and cursed them to remain on Earth forever as spirits of nightmare. The butterflies around Jiu burning away symbolizes the loss of their souls. At the end Jiu closes the gate and locks them inside the school so they can't get out to plague the earth. Chase Me starts many years later after the school has become a hotel which is haunted by the 7 nightmare spirits. You will see mirrors many times in Dreamcatcher videos and they either symbolize the split nature of humanity, part angel part devil, or as a gateway to other dimensions where a different version of the self may exist. In OOTD an evil version of Dreamcatcher is destroyed by their pursuit of wealth and fame, while in the alternate reality depicted in Justice, a good version of Dreamcatcher fight and destroy the source of the evil (the Crown) which caused the deaths of the evil version of Dreamcatcher, except for Jiu who appears in Justice as a slave bound to the Crown. So whenever you see mirrors or shots of the members duplicated (like in You & I and BEcause) , then you know what's going on. Collective Punishment: traditional Korean culture believes strongly in collective punishment, so even though Yoohyeon was the one who sinned, the entire coven was punished. Guardian Spirits: Korean shamanistic tradition (Japanese also) believes the world is full of spirits and minor deities of various kinds and angering any of them is a very bad idea. The Shaman's job was to perform rituals to placate these spirits if someone had angered them, and since all bad things happening to people where blamed on the supernatural, Shamans were always in demand.

"Fly High" is probably the poppiest of the Nightmare arc. It was not done by their usual production team as well. But it makes sense, since this is a prequel, so bringing in a bit of the Minx sound makes sense to me. There are really heavy parts in it as well, which clearly state that they are not Minx anymore. And I love the dark parts thrown in, they really make the song special. The light part sung by SuA after the metal break is in major, while the rest of the song is in minor. That is why it stands out so much. They did the same in Good Night, but a lot shorter. About the MV: You can see Yoohyeon burning the spider, which brought the curse of the spider queen down on the members. You will see the spider queen again in You and I. In Native American mythology, spiders are considered protectors, that is why a Dreamcatcher resembles a spider's net. That is a brilliant connection to their name! 😊

The Nightmare Series is more than just a Trilogy, there are 7 videos total. The next one is called 'You And I'. After that comes 'What' and the last Korean Language part is called 'Piri'. Then the 'alternate ending' is a Japanese release called 'Breaking Out'.

Fly High is from the album Prequel and the MV shows the events that lead to the Nightmare Curse. Chronologically Fly High is the beginning and takes place before Chase Me and Good Night. The Japanese influences are definitely more present in their earlier work. Their CEO was involved in bringing a lot of J-Rock and J-Pop to Korea when he was younger so when they re-branded Minx into Dreamcatcher and decided to go with an anti-mainstream sound they used his j-rock knowledge of K-Rock as the basis of their sound. As they've grown and evolved throughout the years though they've supplemented their sound from lots of other rock genres. Don't worry about trying to understand everything on a first or even 10th watch. Some of the details in the MVs require frame by frame analysis and an understanding of other videos to get the most of it. Just vibe with the music and we'll fill you in on any questions you may have afterwards. Looking forward to You & I next! Make sure to watch the MV on the Dreamcatcher channel, the one on 1theK has more views but doesn't have captions.
