Dreamcatcher's song BOCA was the first song that got me fully invested in kpop. i knew of kpop for a little over a decade before, but it wasn't until listening to BOCA that i was like, "ok, i'm in it for life now", to which i went back and started listening to all the other kpop groups again and found a whole new appreciation for it. So they're one of those groups that are a huge part in broadening my mind and music taste 😊

Welcome to the Dreamworld! Dreamcatcher are very unique. They are the dark angels of Kpop and the only girl group who consistently incorporate Rock and Metal in their title tracks, fusing that with Kpop into something that basically is a new genre. They also are drenched in horror and social criticism, which again is special. Plus, they are massively talented, all of them. And while the girls look like they could rip out your spine when they are on stage, off stage they are adorable crackheads. 😉 Justice is part two of a two-part series, the first one is OOTD, which sounds very differently. Just like ymenehcra for OOTD, an account named 9mynameis1 has been posting messages before the comeback. She posted that her seven friends became obsessed with the crown and have not been responding anymore, which corresponds with the secret diary Siyeon (our powerhouse main vocal, also known as Wolfie) is reading. The text there reads "How are you? I'm worried because you aren't replying." So what we are seeing here is the seven friends (Dreamcatcher) getting rid of their obsession with the crown (materialism, narcicism) by literally destroying it, which makes their friend rejoin them (there is an eighth person joining them near the end). There is also a lot of imagery about death and legendary figures like Valkyries or greek goddesses and legends. Reddit user PaintMeYaBasic has managed to identify these paintings in the MV: Hero by Edward Burne-Jones (from the tale of Hero and Leander), Valkyrie and a Dying Hero by Hans Makart, Hero and Leander by Salvator Rosa and finally "Justice" by Kenyon Cox in the center back. In the tale of Hero and Leander from Greek mythology, Hero is actually a priestess of Aphrodite (Venus in the Roman myths), so that is not the same as the hero who is taken from the battlefield by a Valkyrie in the other painting. But OOTD has the line "I'm Venus, Nephthys, call me a Goddess". It is likely there is a connection. While OOTD was about falling for the temptations of modern life and a satire on narcicism (especially influencers and fast fashion), I believe Justice is telling us to fight those temptations for a better world. It is a call to become a warrior for good in the world and fight the materialism that seems to be the most important thing for many people in the developed countries. You can see JiU break the bonds that hold her down, and we should do the same. There are also many references to their older MVs in this. The paintings also have a deeper meaning in Chase me, there is a sword in Deja Vu and Scream, the bite into the apple is a callback to BEcause and the tree to the Dystopia trilogy - and so on. There are many more. The 8th figure in the end could also be JiU from Deja Vu, finally breaking the cycle of violence and providing justice. Musically, I love the song. The guitars in the pre-chorus and chorus are pure heaven (just like Dongie with her wings). It has the right amount of heaviness for me, and it is an anthem and a call to action. I also love that they shortened the pre-chorus by two bars in the second half, throwing us into the chorus early. Justice is a brilliant, epic release, showing everyone that a group can still produce fantastic music and MVs after seven and a half years.

I'm happy to see Auntie being a fan of Dreamcatcher and i see her bias is Dami (the one with the deep voice), same as me. Dreamcatcher's fandom are Insomnia (or somnia for short). Tbh i didn't really like the studio version of this song, but the live version with a band (it's live) is actually really good. There are some other k-pop groups and idols who have rock songs like AleXa and the more old school legend Seo Taiji, who was the very first kpop star making rock and metal. (i feel like Auntie's appa knows Seo Taiji kekw).

Justice is the second part of the Villains VS Virtuous story. The first song is OOTD so if you want to follow the story you need to start there. Dreamcatcher are story tellers and almost all of their title tracks tell continuing stories. Their debut song, Chase Me, is the first part of the seven song Nightmare story arc. After that was Deja Vu, a song made for a mobile video game. Then came the Dystopia trilogy, a three song story consisting of Scream, Boca, and Odd Eye. They released the standalone album Summer Holiday and it's title track BEcause after that. Next was the Apocalypse trilogy with Maison, Vision, and Bon Voyage. That brings us up to date with the Villains and Virtuous albums. There was also a Japanese album and some other things they did in Japan, but their activities there were shut down by the Covid pandemic and have not resumed.

Auntie! Thank you so much for reacting to Dreamcatcher!! They are my ults! I've never stanned a group so fast in my life. DC's main tracks are always Rock-themed, but their B-sides go all over the place, genre-wise. And they're *all* good. At least, IMO. DC's title tracks are also usually strongly themed, and their videos often have stories that stretch over multiple songs and over multiple comebacks. Such as the Nightmare era, and the Dystopia trilogy of videos. Songs to get you started: The Dystopia trilogy is my personal favorite so far. That's the songs "Scream", "BOCA", and "Odd Eye". That's where I usually start for people that I'm trying to get into DC. Then I think it's good to go back in time to watch their debut and the trilogy of videos that follows. Namely the songs "Chase Me", "Good Night", and "Fly High". After that, I'd recommend checking out "BEcause", and some of their B-sides like "And There Was No One Left", "Wonderland", "Red Sun", and "Mayday". They've also released videos of them doing rocked-out covers of songs like "Lucky Strike", "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back"or Siyeon's cover of "Overdose". I could go on, but the Deukae rabbit hole goes deep, and I'll leave it to you to explore more.

Oh, awesome! I hope you will check them out more, this is my Ult Group in all of music! Dreamcatcher's Title tracks are Rock or even Metal-based but they mix other genres in as well. The B-Side tracks are really eclectic, covering just about every genre you can think of without necessarily being Rock or Metal (they even have some ballads and they have a lullaby called 'Lullaby'. They do covers of other groups, too, from Korea and from other places all over the world. These ladies are sweethearts so they do songs about social issues and protecting the environment. Wonderful Human Beings all around, so we REALLY NEED them to succeed. Good people DESERVE to succeed. Yes, they sing live. In that live, they were down a member; she went on hiatus for health stuff and for anxiety. We hope only the best for our Main Vocalist. The other ladies did a great job covering her position though. They really stepped up. :)

Welcome to the black hole that is Dreamcatcher. This album Virtuous is Dreamcatcher's Opus. It's their best album ever and that's saying a lot because Dreamcatcher has never ever had a bad song. Besides their title tracks, their B-sides and ballads are brilliant. Also they have some of the hardest choreography around. Good examples are Demian and Red Sun where the choreography was created by Kim Bora aka Sua. Their story is legendary. Formerly known as a cute concept girl group call Minx, that group had to die and from the ashes rose Dreamcatcher. I truly hope you get into them. They're absolutely worth it. Dreamcatcher is the DREAM. 🤘🐺🤘
