As requested in my latest Twitter poll, here's an introduction to Dreamchaser. For those who narrowly lost the vote for an ISS Attitude Control video, don't worry, it's well in work and will be here soon enough so make sure you hit that bell icon. Because Simply Space is based around animations and I'm a full time engineering student It's near impossible to maintain a regular upload schedule that KZbin's algorithm favors. My KZbin analytics show that the majority of views on newly released videos come from external sources outside of KZbin, like Reddit, FaceBook, Twitter and Discord. In other words, this channel depends on viewers like yourself sharing new videos. KZbin can't be counted on to spread the sort of content I upload, so if you enjoyed this video or any others on the channel please share them with others, that's what keeps this channel alive. Thank you!

Without revealing how I know this --- don't count on 2021. You're more likely to see 2023-2024, assuming NASA doesn't pull the funding.
@SimplySpace4 жыл бұрын
I'm not counting on it sticking to timeline at all, you never can in spaceflight and certainly not with SNC.

So sad that the Kenedy space center in US Florida shuted down shuttle flights but now we are moving on for a new shuttle the Dream Chaser I can't wait to see it and I am a big fan of Kenedy Space Center I saw the SpaceX launch 🚀

I can remember playing football as a very little kid in 1993, seeing and hearing the shuttle re-enter the atmosphere above us in Utah during practice in the late evening, just two huge *BOOMS* and up above, this tiny-looking plane in the sky going _very_ fast.

I'm pretty down on the Space Shuttle these days but I like the idea of a space plane. That's why I enjoy the Dream Chaser - it's what the Shuttle should've been!

Nice Space Shuttle model. I like the little details you added during gliding and landing.

Could you do an episode on the Russian Kliper? It was announced around the same time as the Dreamchaser to be a potential Soyuz replacement, but it never left the drawing board.

Excellent video! I wonder if larger shuttle designs will come around when SLS or BFR are launching, the larger fairing size would be a great benefit to such a vehicle!

Blender is a very powerful piece of software and it's free, all you've gotta do is put in the time to learn it and then practice, it's a skill.

What about the manned Dream Chaser? Sierra Nevada's website said it was not canceled
@SimplySpace5 жыл бұрын
SNC are still developing it, but it just doesn't have any contracts at the moment since it didn't make the cut for the commercial crew program. Crew Dreamchaser development is coming out of SNC's own wallet.

Is it cheaper than SpaceX’s dragon capsule to resupply the ISS? If not, why would NASA use this instead of the dragon?
@t4t4s0l5 жыл бұрын
I think NASA doesn't wanna make the same mistake like it did in the past, hooking itself only on one or two major suppliers - like Boeing, because these huge corporation then only bloodsucked the $$ from NASA, while the results were only on paper and nothing materialized in reality. Under the new administration, they try to uplift as many companies as possible and start up the competition. I'd say it's a smart thing to do ..
@PassportGaming5 жыл бұрын
t4t4s0l Yeah, but they only jack up the prices since they knew they were a monopoly. There are many competitors now. Nasa should have had all the companies in one room and sign a contract with the lowest bidder. If that company tries to raise the prices once the contract ends, Nasa can threaten to leave it for a cheaper company.
@t4t4s0l5 жыл бұрын
@@PassportGaming Well, i think it's not like that. Bear in mind, that most of those are very new companies/projects. So if they don't get it's pie slice, they die. And i don't think the price variations are not *that* high to be a dealbreaker. So NASA will try to 'feed' a whole pack of 'space hounds' that will compete with each other, instead of one big hungry bear :-) Also we should think, that the cheapest is not always also the best solution ..
@PassportGaming5 жыл бұрын
Cost is the only thing that matters. If it wasn’t for money, we’d have had bases on each planet/moon hundreds of years ago. SpaceX’s goal isn’t profit. I believe in Musk. Also Boeing is one of the biggest companies in the world, nearly 6 times the size of spaceX. It doesn’t need this contract to be competitive with spaceX. But I do agree the maker of this ship could use the contract.

It looks just like Farscape 1.
@SimplySpace5 жыл бұрын
Just had to Google that, it sorta does. Dreamchaser shares a similar design to a line of proposed designs throughout history that might have also inspired Farscape 1.
