Dreaming of a Frigidaire World
"Dreaming of a Frigidaire World" uses footage from “Out of this World” (Frigidaire, 1964), a film based on Frigidaire's 1964 New York World’s Fair exhibit. As such, it provides a peek inside Frigidaire’s dreamworld-kitchens around the globe filled with Frigidaire appliances.
Culturally stylized kitchen sets along with the film’s model/actress were to help international homemakers visualize themselves surrounded by modern Frigidaire convenience. But, in spite of these efforts, I would venture many a homemaker might have had a little trouble with how their culture was portrayed, especially the Japanese. Nothing like a tall white woman dressed in a kimono trying to walk as if foot-bound through her modern Frigidaire kitchen to make your average Japanese woman yearn for a new wall oven.
The music I created for "Dreaming of a Frigidaire World" is a combo platter of dreamy smooth melody served with a little Jetsons-inspired sonic pulse and a side of 70’s rhythm guitar, all served on a beat of irreverent hip-hop.
