Dreams have long held a special place in religion, mysticism, and pseudoscience. Since ancient times, dreams have regularly been interpreted as communication between humans and the divine, messages from the great beyond or spirits still walking the Earth, and prophecies. The ancient Greeks believed that the gods could speak to mortals through dreams. Sleeping and dreaming in temples dedicated to the god of medicine and healing, Asclepius, was thought to be able to cure illness.

The rav mentioned all the signs from the גמרא how we know the dream is a true one (I.e. a prophecy). But there is one more sign: usually dreams are confusing, your mind is not clear, your level of self awareness in your dream is very low. But if the dream is very clear you feel it the same way you would have felt it if you were awake, then that is also a sign that it is true. This is what I saw once from a certain holy book I don't remember which. Even though the גמרא doesn't mention this sign, logic brings me to conclude that this is the most critical sign! My own experience is thus: for years already I have these kinds of dreams! It's not necessarily that I am mentally clear in my dreams and have a high level of consciousness. But I can feel many dreams with my other senses as well, as if it really happened in real life, I have dreams about sex, which the rav said is not a good sign. I have dreams about making in toilet, which he said is a good sign, and I am really feeling as if I am making in the toilet, then of course when I awake I see it was all only a dream. I can Dream about having a bath or dipping into the lake and feel real wet. I can hear music. Or other sounds in my dreams, noises that I know people wouldn't make outside my room, that we should say it's only that. I can even feel pain in my dreams! For example once in A dream I was stinged by a shower of electricity sparks jumping all onto my body (I don't need to tell you of course that there were no electricity devices on or around my bed switched on or connected to anything, actually there was not even anything on in the whole room!). But I did really feel the pain, as if it had happened in real life. Not only that! But very often the dream is so clear to me and I am in such a high self awareness level that i know while I am dreaming that it is all only a dream! (This has more chances to occur in the dreams I really feel, like I said above, but it can even occur in dreams that are not crystal clear, and were I don't feel anything real). If you don't believe me that there is such a phenomenon ask around on the internet, there should be some science article video or something that confirms it! I have a whole diary where I write down all of those true dreams I can remember, just in case some of them will be shown one day to have been a prophecy. It does not look like anything (besides maybe one or two) actually came true, but could be that's just because I don't at all know how to interpret my dreams. Sometimes in my dream I am so impressed by the clearness of it and by the way I am feeling it all as if it happened in real, that I say to myself that when I wake up I must record this in my diary. Sometimes when I don't like a dream that much or I am afraid it is getting late and I am sleeping to long, I pray to God (in my mind at least) that he should wake me up, but usually once I awake I see that I am still tired and I go back to sleep. Another phenomenon mentioned on the Internet about dreams: is people who can (or at least think they can) to a certain degree manipulate their dreams: I.e. they have free will in their dreams and can decide in their dreams where they should go what they should do at cetera. These kinds of dreams happen to me too. The information on the internet says, that this happens to people who play a lot of video games (which I do, although not that often). Because a video game like a dream, is a virtual reality, and therefore playing a video game you are inadvertently training yourself to take control of virtual reality situations like dreams! But I don't think there is moral free Choice in a dream, at least that's what my experience tells me. If there is it is only to the extent that animals have free will, to decide for instance what food to eat, when both foods are equally tempting and equally accessible. But we can't decide moral choices between good or evil in a dream. Many times I tried but I simply can't! Even when it is a clear dream, and I know I am dreaming, and in my dream I see a naked beautiful woman I can't choose to dream that I am closing my eyes or turning around and not seeing her, because i don't have the power to go against my animalistic desires in my dreams! Even though it will make me a קרי (a wet dream in English). (And by the way I feel the physical pleasure of the emission while I am still deep in my dream. And when I wake up I feel all wet, and see it has really happened). Therefore the gift of moral free will, to dicide between obeying god and disobeying him, I say, has been given to us humans only in waking life (of course an exception is, if God really comes to you in a prophecy, or a ghost really comes to visit you from the other world and talks with you, then you have your free Choice what to say and answer him, at cetera.). Therefore I shall not be punished for what I do in my dreams. True the rav said, that someone who looks on immodest things on the internet at cetera. Angels visit him in his dreams, and make him sin in his sleep, and then he is punished for that as well. But that does not apply to me, because I don't! I never sin by day, and therefore whatever I dream is completely not my fault!

So, Rabbi, in your debate with the Christian professor, you made a big thing of accepting the WRITTEN Torah as the only Word of God. That not even one jotah or tittle may be added or subtracted from it. Why does God need sinful men - and no matter how very learned you are, you are a sinful man - to interpret His Torah for the people? And the Talmud and all the other interpretations of the Torah. Is God not able to write a clear Word? And what assurance do you have that you are interpreting it correctly? And also, how is this different from what the Roman Catholics did in interpreting the NT for the lay people until Martin Luther made it accessible to the lay people? Or the different Protestant sects? It is my opinion - referring to something you said in the debate - that the New Testament is not equal to the Torah in the sense that the Torah is the Word of God... once again, the mystical (Zoharistic) truth is that the NT is only there as a teacher to lead one to Christ. Once you have found Messiah, you do not ever have to read it again, because from then on the Ruach teaches us from inside... But of course to read the NT is good, just as it is good to read of the experiences of Godly, Christian men and women during the ages. I can tell you there are some godly lay people with no education to speak of, who are so full of the wisdom of God that the very learned Rabbi's can come and learn from that, because Holy Ruach Himself teaches them and tells them what His Word means. It is a supernatural knowledge just like the virgin birth...

I want to appoligize on behalf of Robert, I used to be Christian, and I had a very similar mindset to yours, and so I will try to explain a little bit.The question of "Is G-d not able to write a clear word?" in regards to how people should interrupt the Torah, the answer to this is that without any further interpretation, you would be unable to understand a single word of the Torah, because it is through the oral interpretations that the text is understood. Even if you have English translations of the Torah, a lot is lost in the translation, and the English translations rely on the Hebrew interpretation from Judaism, and later the interpretation of the Greek, in which was interrupted from Judaism. My point is, the literalist approach sounds good, however it doesn't work when it comes to practice. You end up with everyone following the Torah in different ways, in which divides everyone (more than Judaism is divided today). Therefore, it is for the best that the rulings stay the same. The Mishnah part of the Talmud is what is called the "Oral Torah" in which elaborates on the Torah, but even it is somewhat short, and so the Gemara was created to be a further commentary on the Mishnah, and also to capture opinions, stories, and thought. The Talmud had to be made so that Judaism could be practiced in exile, with possibly very few Jews left. Luckily, the Hebrew language was never fully lost, or else the entire Talmud, and the Torah would not be understandable. I do believe that by having the Talmud codified, Judaism is changed forever, because what was meant to be lived, or taught orally is now written down, and people interpret things differently written down. The fear at the time was that Jews would start looking at the Talmud as equal to the Torah in terms of divinity. From the speakers I have heard (because I am an outsider) it is very stressed that the Torah is the only source of the word of the Creator, the Talmud is simply explanations on how to follow it, with commentary on Torah, legal opinions, and history. Since the Talmud is so huge, compilations of Jewish Law have been made that are authoritative today, and they are the Mishneh Torah, and the Shulchan Aruch.

I don't support Christianity, however I understand that people have the views they do because of pre-conceptions, and experience in their communities. The Christian Bible says that the Jews are blind because they don't have the Divine Presence, among other things. With a book like this being their only source of interpretation of the Bible, it is hard to blame them for what they believe. You know I really understand your frustration, although what really makes me frustrated is immodesty more than anything. I don't think non-Jews should be taught the ins and outs of Judaism unless they seek it, however at the same time I don't think non-Jews, including Christians should be left in the dark either. The goal in Judaism from the beginning was to be a light to the other nations, so that they may serve the Creator, and improve their lives with basic moral conduct, and possibly convert, or just become Noahides. When knowledge is cut off, however, issues arise, and the people continue not worshiping the Creator alone, and so it is important that the gap be bridged, but in a way that non-Jews are not taught Torah unless they seek it. Otherwise, or course it would be forbidden. I do believe however that giving a brief explanation in this case like I did was warranted.

In the same sense, you stated that Mary the testimony of Mary the mother of Jesus couldn't be trusted because there were no witnesses... was there one witness to the truth of Jacob's dream? Or Josephs? Why do you take their word for it - actually God spoke from heaven when He gave the Ten Commandments and there were millions of people present to witness to the truth of it, but there were not millions of people when these people dreamed these dreams. Why are these people accepted as Torah with not one witness present, but not Mary's witness? And btw... these dreams benefited Jacob who was known as a crafty person and he became very rich... also Joseph... they became very rich through these professed dreams. This makes it very suspicious.

Hi After your first question regarding Jacob and Joseph you answered your question already HaShem gave the Torah to millions of people and they were witnesses to that We’ll GD wrote in that same Torah that he just gave, that Jacob and Joseph’s had dreams and the lessons behind them He himself was the one who made it, so we take GD word for it that Jacob and Joseph dreams were valid and true.
