Figure Note:
Stop-Motion Transformation of Dreamstar Toys DST-01003 Silverbolt. Gorgeous but tricky. I would say the trickiest part is realizing that the big hip skirt actually has an L-shaped slot. For robot mode and for combined mode, you slide the pin all the way to the end of the slot (lengthening it) but for jet mode you slide it down and then sideways a bit, following the L-shape.
Another tricky part is getting the combiner ports out. Use the tool they give you and be careful what you use for leverage.
In the middle of the shoot, the left ankle on mine broke. There isn’t much to that joint, so be careful. I have faith that ShowZ after-sales service will sort it out.

Production Note: 1380 pictures! It’s hard to convey some of the steps. Like all the hidden tabs and holes to stitch the jet together or assemble the backpack. Maybe I should do a livestream on him.
Viewing Note:
If you want to follow along, I recommend skipping to the speed run and using your , and . keyboard keys to advance by single frames. Every step of the transformation is documented in the frames of the video, in what I consider to be the best sequence. With minimal rubbing and minimal parts-parking.

Correct - most of the pain will be behind the scenes since I'll have to transform them all between all three modes.

Man, you're the only one on youtube to go from robot mode to combiner and I want to thank you. I didn't want to have to get this beast into alt mode only to go back. I'll slow the video down to .25 speed and try to follow along. Thank you again!

Read the description for "Viewing Note" - When I use my own videos I use a computer and I skip to the speed run portion that I want (the speed run has no pauses, just all the photos in order) and pause the video. Then on the computer you can use , and . (command and period) to move the video one frame at a time. Then I just follow along one frame at a time. It's the whole reason the "speed run" portion exists - for my own use when following along. Also for every necessary sequence for the individual figures, I recommend finding each video for the individual figures - those videos have all 6 sequences in the speed run: Vehicle->Robot, Robot->Combined, Combined->Vehicle and all the reverses of those.

@@peolesdru everything was going fine until I needed to rotate silverbolts shoulder for the combined mode. SNAP!! there goes the ratchet joint. 😭😭 Waiting for a reply from TFSafari for a replacement right arm assembly. Keep up your awesome work with these stop motion gems!

@@Shawn.Mullins Yeah, mine survived several transformations (for the original Silverbolt video for example) but finally snapped on me when I went to do the final video. I needed it to be firmly in torso mode, so I drilled a pilot hole into the joint at an angle and threw a screw into it to hold it. I am also still waiting for a replacement part at this point. I put a photo of this "fix" on my Instagram back when it happened.

@@Shawn.Mullins I got mine from ShowZStore and submitted my request on June 11. I'm prepared for it to take a while, but ShowZ usually comes through with replacement parts eventually. Given the amount of reported issues, I was a bit surprised when the final figure (the F4 Phantom) didn't just come with replacement parts.

Usually a figure this complicated is designed to better conceal the robot in ways that Hastak are unable to do with their limited budgets. For example, the planet mode of 01-Studio's Cell completely disappears when transforming, leaving Armada Unicron green with envy. But if the robot is barely hidden by the alt mode to the point of looking like its Combiner Wars counterpart, what is the point?

Yeah, this one made a lot of compromises to the alt mode to get the torso mode just so. Frankly the part count on Studio Cell isn't terribly high, so Armada Unicron never had any good excuses. Frankly I find even the more recent HasLab Unicron a bit of a sloppy effort.

I can do both studio Cell and Haslab Unicrons in 10 minutes (speed challenges). Been messing with Tranaformers since the age of 2 in 1986. Even the Gcreations Shuraking combiner isn't too rough (though NOT 10 minutes). But this... after watching this video... even I have been hesitant to transform him. I like to memorize the transformations, but this one looks like it will take up too much storage space in the old noggin. I have Cang Toys Predaking down, but this combiner, though 3 bots less, seems more challenging.

@@michaelh555 These guys are basically fairly simple in terms of the bulk folding of the figure, and a real hassle with all the little bits that need to be adjusted. Definitely hard to memorize. But that's why I make myself these video guides.

@@peolesdru Yeah... I am really disappointed in how much the Concord alt mode suffered, especially compared to the others in the set so far with how they have 0 kibble. but what can you do? Life is life sometimes!

It's not quite as elegant. The jet mode suffers from the classic Hasbro jet mode issue - namely there is an obvious scrunched-up robot underneath.

These are gorgeous but when that level of transformation is involved, is it even worth it? I think the goal for any dev of transforming figures is to push to the max the looks WHILST also aiming for maximum ease of transformation. Compromises are inevitably going to be made but it can be done. Unique toys has delivered pretty well in these regards. Honestly, what is the point of all this intricate engineering if the owner is too scared to even touch it? Id rather save my money.

This one in particular is a bit panel-ly, it seems to make sure the combiner torso is very sturdy. For the most part they are all pretty sturdy figures, but I will agree they lack the elegance of UT or MMC.

I think the Aerialbots even in G1 were an attempt to make the torso guy a larger vehicle. A concorde is quite a bit larger than a fighter jet. The SR-71 is somewhere in-between. But I'll agree with you on principal, because the SR-71 is the best. We have an air and space musueum near DC that has an SR-71 front and center (and also a concorde and everything else including THE Enola Gay and a real space shuttle). The indoor scene with Jetfire in TF2 was shot at that museum. The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. The outdoor scenes were shot in some airplane graveyard out west because Bay is allergic to continuity and logic.

@@peolesdru Well... I just got Silverbolt and was waiting on emgo's video before memorizing its transformation. But I dont't think the actual Concorde mode is big enough to scale well with the other Ariel bot plan modes (haven't seen them side by side yet). Which is why I think they should have made him an SR-71. Also the large thrusters of the SR-71 could have helped hide kibble and parts. I know the Jetfire Toys have failed at this, but Hasbro/Takara were limited to following the movie design. An original SR-71 transforming bot may have been able to pull off a clean look. Idk...

Wow, what a lovely jet mode, and… wait… what the hell? That’s just a robot under there. At least it’ll make up for it in robot mod… oh, god damnit. -:sigh:- I guess the combiner mode is aight? What a needlessly complicated and overdetailed mess… with bad colors to boot. This is definitely one of those figures that really seems to exist for KZbinrs like you to make videos with, rather than for regular folks to actually play with. So many super specific moves, and nothing that feels particularly intuitive.

Although the design is very good, it has terrible quality and the materials are terrible for collector figures, the arms break as soon as you take them out of the box.

I did have one of the feet break off (and got it replaced by ShowZ), but never perceived any issues with the arms.
