Okay in Dream's defense he did try to ask Nightmare about where the scratches and bruises came from multiple times, but Nightmare would always lie in order to stop Dream from trying to confront the bullies and getting hurt himself. Plus, Dream had no reason to believe the townsfolk would ever do anything wrong since around him they were always sweethearts, and Dream didn't think his friends would ever hurt his brother.
