Cole] Huggin' the block, huggin' the block all day I had nowhere to go, she gave me a place to stay She gave me her heart to hold, I still got that shit to this day She ridin' with me on the road, she ridin' with me in the A Huggin' the block, huggin' the block, okay She gave me the gift of my son, and plus we got one on the way She gave me a family to love, for that, I can never repay I'm crying while writing these words, the tears, they feel good on my face, hey [Refrain: J. Cole] And yesterday could feel just like a waste, yeah If I don't love you how I'm supposed to And yesterday could feel just like a waste, yeah If I don't love you how I'm supposed to [Chorus: Johnny Venus] I make sacrifices, bloody sacrifices

I am a recovering alcoholic. It was around the time this DREAMVILLE project came out when I was at the worst point of my alcohol addiction. I remember getting so drunk and I would listen to this song on repeat until I completely passed out. I remember listening to this song when I hit rock bottom and blacked out for a whole day. Listening to it again put tears in my eyes and I thank God for pulling me out of the hell I put myself into back then. edit: It's been three years this month guys and I am still sober and it's crazy how much my life changed these three years. I went to university for a degree in IT and I'm currently running a small print bussines. Thank you so much for the love and kind words. I never knew I could find kindness and the support to continue from absolute strangers. For anyone else who is starting on their alcohol recovery ....DO NOT STOP. YOU WILL HEAL. Just keep making the SACRIFICES. Love you all❤️❤️

man its easy huggin the block is slang for selling drugs so basically he's saying that he used to sell drugs all day and had no where to go before his wife showed up and gave him a home and family. the previous verse is about where he used to live where boys stand on the corner selling drugs till the cops shows up, then he packed up a bag and sent it up north where he ran into his wife.

That being said, do you think Cole was trying to take on a dual role of saying how he feels about his wife, but through the life of Johnny's dad, because Cole has a daughter not a son I thought. and I didn't think Cole grew up in the street life so maybe that's what Johnny's dad felt and cole is saying it as he can agree with the sentiment and respect and gratitude he had towards his wife. either way it is really touching

I dont want to hate on what you saying , i agree it was a great verse but i dont think this verse fits on this song while jcole and johny had a verse about loving someone , saba's verse could fit on a different song !
@aarondennis70295 жыл бұрын
@@georgeb5356 I see where it can look like they're off topic because each artist takes a different spin off the theme of sacrifices. Saba is talking about how where he grew up (Chicago) ppl were willing to do any type of dirt for the money, but he took a different route (college) and then he sacrificed those goals and put his everything into his music. Smino's verse was the weakest in regard to relevance in my opinion, but I think there are a few bars that vaguely refer to the sacrifice of being from the "North Side," and what that infers about the type of things him and his crowd have done for money. That's prolly a stretch, but his verse is pretty disconnected from the theme in my opinion.

It'll always be beautiful to hear about a man crying and loving his wife for what she's given him.

JCole verse spoke to me fr, growing up poor with a gang-affiliated family I was the black sheep. Knew the streets weren't for me and knew I had to break the cycle. Hugging the block almost made me break down in tears because losing people to the streets sting deeply and makes you "grow up" earlier than the other kids.
