I worked at Universal when the Shrek 4D attraction (RIP) opened. Specifically I worked the turnstiles at the entrance, where the Shrek soundtrack was playing on loop... All day... I probably heard those two Smash Mouth songs 12 times a shift. I'm still scarred I think. Luckily we were one of the few groups that got to swap between working the Studios and Islands of Adventure. So some shifts I got the nice environmental muzak there instead.

Alicia said in a previous podcast that it's likely that Universal are doubling down on wanting a Nintendo presence at all of their parks; the Simpsons land at Universal is most likely being replaced with Pokémon and the Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure is most likely going to be replaced with the Legend of Zelda. These two properties alone will bring in massive crowds, just like how the Wizarding World areas have been a huge draw 😱🙌🏽🙌🏽

Shame to see the woody wood pecker ride go, that was the first ever coaster i went on when i was a little kid. Hope all little ones now get to enjoy this area and get good memories like mine.

I don't even have kids and I can tell how much of an upgrade this is. And they're building it so fast! Sure, the coaster is a reskin, but they're still building a lot of structures, and both Shrek's tree and the Panda Village are very impressive. They'll need to at least update the facade of ET if they don't want it to seem really shabby by comparison! Though I feel like that whole ride needs an update. I don't want them to get rid of it or anything, but it's getting pretty scrungy and dated.

ET is the only OG ride left at universal. Yes its dated but its still fun to ride and shows how far the park has come. Its perfect the way it is.

@@jaylapuckett681 it is, but it's also gotten worn. Everything needs new paint, the animatronics need a refresh and possibly a hardware upgrade... I think a bit of projection mapping would benefit some parts of the ride too. Just a sprucing up, not any major alterations.

Finally a proper kids play area at Universal. Japan has an amazing kids area and I never understood why they dont have it in the US parks. Now make one in Hollywood! Parade looks awesome as well and a great way to bring back old missed attractions like BTTF and T23D.

I'd HAVE to think that's part of the long term plan for this area. Might have to also see what comes of the nearby Simpsons area first in the next few years. That may dictate if/when one of these DreamWorks IP's gets an actual ride.

I think people are forgetting that this land is a replacement for Kids Zone, which was always meant for younger guests. The target audience is young kids who are too small to go on most other rides at the park, allowing the little ones to have somewhere to just run around and play. If we keep that in mind, I think the land absolutely does its job and adds some color and excitement for older guests to also appreciate.

If there's no land about Road to eldorado or Rise of the guardians, i'll be so dissapointed! Theses movies are funny, have beautiful music, likable characters, cool villains. They are a big part of my childhood; i love them! Dreamworks need to give them more respect and love. Just putting the most popular is not fair. The guardians, Miguel and Tulio can be in the park too. I doubt it will happen though ☹

Universal needs *something* for the little brothers and sisters of kids 42” to do. UOR has SO little for kids under 42”- I recommend no one go that small. But if someone has a 10 year old potter loving kid and a 5 year old sibling who can’t ride anything, they’ll push that off. And epic isn’t going to help with that. There will be a couple things at HTTYD and that’s all. This helps fill that gap just a little. By no means is UOR becoming a kids park, but this is enough to satisfy siblings

I'm glad I got a coaster credit on Woody Woodpecker back in 2019 😅 it had just rained, and I was the only one there. I was grossed out by how nasty & musty the little safety nets over the bars smelled 🤢 even back then I was thinking the area needed an update/replacement

Pretty late in the game for that. OLC already release all the information regarding what’s going to be there, rides, restaurants, gift shops, and a tour. Looks pretty much done even though it opened in June. Only a few scaffolding remains.

I predict that Viva from Trolls 3 will become a meet and greet character. Also, I was thinking about the theater show being a child-friendly rave based on Trolls 2, but the Imagination Celebration sounds a bit like that, but with pop music and all the Dreamworks franchises. Also, I know it is obvious, and I don’t need to mention it, but we all know that How to Train Your Dragon is absent because it’s getting its own land in Epic Universe.

Well, looks like dreamworks land gets two rides with the merry go around ride. Not going to lie can't wait to see how this looks done. Also, on the sites someone noticed over by the meet and greet barney area are some streamers in gabbys colors. maybe that's her meet and greet area? The shrek outhouse is said to be rumored to be the entrance to a slide. People online have nicknamed it "Shreks poop shoot".

Because it’s not about what was popular when you were a kid. It’s about what is popular to the children NOW, and it’s ability to be timelessfor future children. Madagascar, you’d think was safe, being that it had three movies, spin off movie, several TV series, and holiday specials, but it just somehow managed to not keep audiences. There was an entire Madagascar land at Universal Singapore, and they completely destroyed it for another boring Minions land. Minions is more popular than Madagascar, I’m afraid. I mean, look at Fievel’s Playland. It had four movies, and a tv series, yet was already dated the second it opened in the park. They don’t want Madagascar to become another Fievel. And if you want proof of this, look at the concept art for that Universal Kids Resort in Texas. First concept showed an entire Central Park Zoo area, clearly for Madagascar. 11 months later, they showed updated concept art, only the Madagascar land isn’t just gone, a Minions area was added!

Looks like a line of newly planted pine trees will separate and buffer the Shrek area from the E.T. entrance, extending the forest feel of the E.T. queue outdoors. Unfortunately, the E.T. attraction marque has been hidden because of its close proximity to Shrek’s swamp. Will Universal move it or add additional signage further out front so the entrance is more noticeable?

lol, I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic or not, but ignoring any political or religious issues with such an area, it’s a bit dated. It’s a great film, but most people born this century have never even seen it. That was the problem with the old KidZone. By the time Fievel’s Playland opened, the kids who loved the movie were now in middle school. By the time Barney opened, the kids who grew up with that also were in middle school. Once they’re that age, they were too old, and those young enough to enjoy either never knew of the show, or didn’t care. That’s why I’m glad the Universal Kids Resort is at least trying to target younger middle schoolers, and are using properties, like the ones here, that are still relevant decades later.

I’d imagine the Trollercoaster being one, but the track may be different since they get to build it completely from scratch. I honestly prefer the earlier concept art over the more recent one.
