One of the critical functions of those brake backing plates is to keep road water from splashing up onto the disc rotor pad surfaces stopping the brakes from effectively working when you need them.

Couldn't agree more, you keep on catching me out...... Referring to weekend toys, not daily drivers/ tourers... The guys that take their toys out once a month, rest of time sitting around baking the mud on from last run.... Old school slow indirect diesel machines....

@@TeamBulletOffroad If your chasing better braking performance removing the brake backing plates is a backwards step. The braking distance & performance you lose by removing them might one day just be that bit you need to stop in a life or death situation, why short change yourself with your braking performance?

I’m with the Duster on this one. Keep the “off-road only” mods for the bullet. Whitelux is too good to hack and there is a genuine risk involved. The backing plates also regulate heat distribution and protect the brake components from road debris impact damage.

I can understand why you would want to run the arb air lockers but would you consider the Eaton e locker just to have comparisons across your range of hilux’s

Spoke to my TJM contact today, may try get a pair of their lockers... Thanks for the eye opener... But to a certain extent ill try "new foods", never sit behind the steering wheel of a nissan though....

@@TeamBulletOffroad Another great vid.I also have a 2.8 with 4.3 diff gears running 31"s so you would be stretched to get any good capability running 33"s seeing as they originally come with about 29" tyres for the 4.3 diff gears. I have a lokka in the front, cause I like simplicity but will get a e-locker in the rear over an air locker as you are only relying on a wire rather than compressor lines and compressor. I am a great believer in the KISS theory..( keep it simple stupid ). I see you run longfields. Have you thought of the RCV axles for bullet which are supposed to be 25% stronger, but a bit more expensive. So what was wrong with bullet ?.
