By watching these videos, I get motivated not only to lose weight but to aim to be healthy! I hope I can keep choosing to be healthy everyday for my own sake and for my loved ones. Btw, here's the summary of the benefits of no sugar for 7 days. 1. Improved energy 2. Mental clarity 3. Less bloating 4. Better sleep 5. Weight loss 6. No cravings 7. Clearer skin 8. Reduced joint pain 9. Better mood 10. Metabolic health You are amazing Dr. Ekberg!

@jagoffCitizen - spot-on! The memory of the mental agitation and irritability plus gut discomfort that follows consumption of candies or chocolate, quickly fades. When the inevitable craving returns we can only think of the pleasure we feel when eating that sugar. Seems to me to be a strong characteristic of drug addiction…?

Growing up, I always wanted a nap after eating, and especially sugary foods and drinks! Without sugar, I wake up without hitting the snooze on the alarm, I don't have an afternoon "slump" (craving a nap), and I just always feel so much better without eating sugar! I eat about 1/4 cup of blueberries regularly. They are full of polyphenols, and are a super food for your brain! A 1/4 cup serving only has 4 carbs. I like getting 1 cup of grass fed Greek yogurt. I spit it in half... opposite sides of the bowl. And 1 side I shake lots of cayenne pepper...then mix it in. The other side I mix in turmeric and a bunch of black pepper. The cayenne pepper helps open your blood vessels, and promote blood flow to the brain. The turmeric helps fight inflammation...pepper helps the body absorb the turmeric. Next, sprinkle chia seeds on both sides, then put about 1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds on, then sprinkle with pistachios...last but not least is the 1/4 cup of blueberries. The spices make it all taste AMAZING(!), and it is all ridiculously good for you!

Insulin resistance sneaks up on you for years and years until one wakes up type 2. Kudos to you for quitting not only sugar but all carbs as well - stick to it and you will become fat adapted and start using your own body fat as energy. If you implement walking daily 7-10k steps, you will be golden. The body will become more and more insulin resistant, blood pressure will go down, kidneys will function better, better sleep and so on. Bravo 👏👏👏

As an old smoker, sugar cravings are almost as bad as nicotine cravings, it's _really_ hard to quit that stuff. Like Dennis said, take it easy and gradually cut out sugar/processed stuff over time - going cold turkey probably won't work. Stop taking sugar in coffee/tea, then cut down on bread, etc - it's a marathon not a sprint

1. Improved Energy Levels: Quitting sugar stabilizes energy, leading to increased vitality and alertness. 2. Enhanced Mental Clarity: Reducing sugar intake can alleviate brain fog, improving focus and decision-making. 3. Reduced Cravings: Cutting sugar recalibrates taste buds, leading to preference for whole, nutritious foods. 4. Better Sleep Quality: Lower sugar consumption leads to more stable cortisol levels, facilitating restful sleep. 5. Less Bloating: Eliminating sugar can balance gut bacteria, reducing bloating and digestive discomfort. 6. Healthier Skin: Quitting sugar reduces inflammation, contributing to clearer skin. 7. Weight Loss Initiation: The body begins to shed water weight and recalibrates hunger hormones, aiding in weight loss.

I am one of your number one fans, and having followed your advice since last June I can vouch for everything that you say in this video. I've known for more than a decade about the evils of sugar, but found its addictive qualities made it very difficult to give up. However, that time arrived last June and I haven't looked back. I don't talk about this as being a diet, but as a way of life. People look at me and say, "wow, you've lost so much weight and are looking really good" and I just refer them to you. Thank you Dr Ekberg, you're a hero!

They did a study on rats with sugar and cocaine. After introducing both substances over a few weeks, they put cocaine on one side of the cage and to reach it the rats would have to walk over an electrified walkway. Eventually, they stop crossing over the wire walkway for the cocaine. When they did the same thing with sugar, the rats did not care about the electrified walkway. It would still go after the sugar. I do think sugar is the most addictive substance on the planet for humans

Thank you , doc. I just watched this video. The timing is excellent as i have known for a year now already that i needed to loose about 10kg. Always came with invalid excuses such as i need sugar for energy when coaching sports at my school, etc...I will try this for sure as i KNOW i am addicted to sugar, espacially caramel. It is going to be tough, but i can see the benefits. My wife has cut out sugar for more than a month and she is very happy. Thanks again for a great channel.

I used to think that metabolism and metabolic hormones are something you are born with, your destiny that you cannot choose or change. Of course, I did not come to this conclusion on my own; I was "educated" this way. For over 30 years I was mildly obese, and I was overweight for ten years before that, and I was persuaded to believe that it was my own fault. About 3 years ago, KZbin randomly suggested me one of Dr. Ekberg's videos. Then I watched more of his videos and videos of other doctors. I decided to try to reduce carbs and increase saturated fats, and also to increase the minimum interval between the last meal yesterday and the first meal today to 16-18 hours. My body mass gradually reduced to normal, my health improved. Thank you, Dr. Ekberg. P.S. My profile picture is from the times when I was obese. I keep it as a reminder to myself.

In moderate amounts, 50 to 100 grams, they are absolutely necessary for those like me who expect muscle gains in the weight room. Maybe not necessary for existence, true, but neither is animal protein. Whether something is necessary or not depends on one's goals.

@ Carbs CAN BE helpful for somebody trying to build mass in the gym, but no, they are not necessary. They certainly will allow you to gain mass quicker, but the quality of that muscle is better obtained and sustained by high amounts of protein rich red meat while utilizing energy needs from the high fat content. Just my opinion....and no, I am not a bodybuilder of any sort.

I am very sensitive to sugar addiciton and got recently a fall back into it. But am planning to stop sugar again after today, so nice timing to improve motivation in that sense! I am not sensitive to addiction to other subsances like alcohol, but sugar is my ultimate weak point. Also does not help i was raised as a obese child by a obese mother who also loves sugar. But i did get on good diet a few times in the past, and managed to hold on for good amount of times so i can do it again.

Thank you for explaining each detail so comprehensively in a manageable length of video. ^^ Thanks to the right level of detail i could connect some dots in n my own issues despite the influence of sugar was not obvious beforehand. It appears that almost all my current problems, from RA to adhd and depression, would considerably benefit from cutting out sugar. After hearing your explanation about the transmitters, I wonder, whether my brain, being in a toxic relationship with Dopamine and always requesting happiness stuff, could maybe calm down, once the addiction and mood instabilities diminish.
