Dear Dr. Ekberg, I finished my first five-day fast two days ago. Days 2 and 3 were difficult, but I somehow scraped through them, took some salt, magnesium and potassium. I have watched dozens of your videos already (they are great!), and I am now on day three on keto, but I have one doubt: Surely our ancestors, between feast and fast, must have depended (at least almost) exclusively on fruit for some short periods (for sure they should have preferred it to fasting, and not have been too picky about the GI of the fruit). Would you agree on this and how would this occasional behaviour show in our long-term health (providing that we are fully healthy when we eat fruit enough to drive us out of ketosis)?

I diagnosed myself with insulin resistance this year. I'm 65 and have been a big sweet and carb eater my whole life. I cut carbs and eat no sugar, do IF, and walk an hour most days. I have lost 26 lbs since May. 3 mos ago my blood glucose had gone from 98 to 92. I'm hoping the next blood test it will be even lower. And skin tags are disappearing! Blood pressure is coming down too. My doc never mentions any of this. Thank you!

Im 33, skinny and appears to be healthy in other ppl’s eyes. I ate a lot of vegetables, meat and rice. I rarely eat candy believe or not. But I have had problems for like 10 years! I got extremely tired after meals, to the point i had to take naps at work. I also got confused a lot even had kidney spams sometimes and I had bad insomnia. For the past 10 years, my doctors never found out the problems, they always say your blood tests came back fine. It was frustrating that no one can tell me what’s wrong! I had to google around and self diagnose, I suspected I have insulin issues (signs of pre-diabetic). I have been following you since last month. You taught me how to be healthy. I am now taking less carbs, replaced white rice to brown/black rice and have been running daily. I feel like a new person! I listen to your videos when I am exercising and it gives me motivation to stay healthy and feel good. Thank you!

I arrived home on September 5th and noticed a weird feeling in both of my legs below the knees. It's not numbness or tingling; but more like a super thin nylon is on. After days of research and a lot of crying, I started the Keto diet. No carbs, no Peanut M & M, and I've dropped 10 pounds already. And, the pain from arthritis the in my knees feels like it's gone. I've also experienced very dry mouth. I've been worried sick and on my knees praying that it's only pre and not type 2. I'm 62. Aging is not for the faint of heart. I cry because you have given me hope. For the last 70 years no one has told me what you say, so now I must be insulin resistant because of the symptoms I feel. I just turned 70. I have dropped all carbs and sugars and I am working on dropping starches and processed sausage which has BHA in it. I had not thought of all those chemicals changing me. Now I read all the labels. Tap water is full of toxins. I am buying a distiller as soon as possible. I am dropping all foods that are not organic. Thank you SO MUCH !

I have type 1 diabetes, and I’ve been doing keto, intermittent fasting and working out 45 mins to an hour a day EVERY day and my A1C has dropped to 5.8 from an 8. I also only take 6 units of insulin a day now down from about 24. My doctor always told me that because I have type one diabetes I can eat what I want, I just have to take more insulin. Crazy! Our endocrinologists and doctors should be using diet and exercise as medicine! I considered my keto diet and my exercise as important as the insulin I have to take.

I just needed to stop by and express the highest gratitude for Dr. Ekberg. He is one of my four goto KZbin channels for guidance on health and wellness. I thought I was a little “chubby” but had my weight under general control. I went for an annual physical in early august and the first thing is to step on that scale. They usually have me take my sneakers off but said it’s ok I don’t have to. I figured it may show me a few pounds higher but that’s ok. Well this 43 y/o 5’9 guy stepped on the scale and it read a whopping 231 lbs!!!! I was shocked and disgusted with myself. I looked at a picture from a few days earlier and couldn’t believe how much I was lying to myself. I was fat, period. I knew something had to be done, once before in my life I reached 249 and never wanted to be there again, but was slowly creeping back up. With the help of the good dr, and a few others here, I learned all about IF. I started practicing it on august 5th. I began with 16:8 for a few weeks, moved onto 18:6 for a few weeks, then OMAD ever since. I incorporated walking 10,000 steps by week 4 and added some weight training soon after for a 1:40-2:00 workout 6/7 days a week ever since. I weigh myself once a week on Thursday mornings. Every single week after the first weeks crazy weight drop of 12 lbs (???) I lose between 3-4 lbs. my one meal is a hello fresh healthy option most nights that is always delicious. I’m proud to say I currently weighed in this morning at 175.4 lbs, I am 15 lbs from my goal weight where my BMI lists me as “normal weight” vs “overweight” and my starting “obese” weight. I feel amazing, I actually have some slight muscle definition. I went from between a size 38-40 pants down to a 34 and I haven’t had any sizes or weights like this in over 20 years!!! Thank you so much to the penultimate health champion, I actually think I will reach my goal now and I am so grateful for Dr. Sten Ekberg 😀

Genius presentation! The absolute best way of explaining the issue. I have been concerned about this issue for a number of years because I work long hours and occasionally binged on junk foods for a period of time and then become pre-diabetic. I usually realign my diet and my blood sugar drops back to the normal range. But I need to consider getting my blood sugar lower and not repeating this dangerous cycle. Thanks Doctor Sten, very much appreciated.

Following another of your presentations I have drastically reduced my sugar intake (I used to eat a lot of fruit). I have taken the challenge to cut out sugar for a month. Within 2 days I noticed that my bloating in the evenings has stopped, my digestion feels much more normal after five days and I am now consuming more protein and fats. In other words I am eating like I was in my childhood and teens when sweets and desserts were almost unheard of in my home. I feel so much better and a burst abscess which was very slow to heal is definitely on the mend. I do seem to have gained a bit of weight but my waist is slimmer so I am monitoring that slowly. I do walk a lot with my dog so exercise isn’t a problem for me. I am almost 72 years of age and feeling quite well. I can definitely recommend the advice you are giving.
@gwendolinewalsh6411
@gwendolinewalsh6411 3 жыл бұрын
This is just an update on the above. Another two weeks have passed and lo and behold, my jeans and skirts are sliding down, I have no bloating. I certainly don’t get really hungry between meals. I am eating fruit in moderation but trying to keep to high fibre fruits. Most desserts are berries with full fat plain Greek Yoghurt and I’m finishing my meals fully Satiated. I was previously on a low fat diet, in fact yo-yo-ing on a number of low fat diet periods which worked well in the early days but was extremely difficult to maintain without snacking in-between meals and the problem with most instant snacks is the sugar they contain. I have had a bag of sweets in my car for the last almost four weeks which I haven’t helped myself to and previously I would be eating them on every journey. I’m also still walking with my dog using a step counter on my watch and I do an average of 15,000 to 18,000 steps each day. As I said in my previous comment, I will be 72 later this week and have no problem tying the laces on my trainers. I really feel that I have found the answer to a number of minor health problems particularly in relation to my skin, hair and nails. I’m still recommending the advice in this video. Thank you so much for posting.

I started taking fish oil supplements when I noticed my vision was blurry. It seems to have helped stop it from getting worse although I haven't yet been able to regain the same sharpness. One trick I do when I have a sugary meal is to drink lots of water afterwards. I am on a IF schedule for maybe two months now and have lost 17 pounds in that time in combination with exercise and a change in diet. My goal is to lose the weight, get my blood sugar levels down to normal and hopefully regain my sharp vision.

Maybe look at products like Cerule Stemenhance Ultra. Bart Kay has a channel on here and swears they helped his vision get better, and that's after he was told he would be blind in ten years. He is a distributor for them but his videos are about rigorous science and evidence so I tend to believe him. What they are supposed to do is get your body releasing stem cells again, which travel to where they are needed. Good luck.

Same here. Started doing omad and fasting for 48 hours weekly. This is my lifestyle now for the rest of my life. I don’t crave or desire food like before. I’m hardly ever hungry and don’t crave sweets or chips any longer. Lost 15pds in about 2-3 weeks already. Thanks Dr Eckberg. We need real doctors like you around.

I'm 37 and have all these symptoms with the exception of maybe 3. The joint pain and numbness makes my job an day to day activities pretty difficult. Where do I start?. Tired of going to my Dr and given pill after pill for different things. I have a whole cabinet of medicine that I'm not taking. I've seen 1st hand what pills can do to my mother. It's heatmrt breaking. So I've just chosen to live with the pain. This video makes so much sense in how I feel everyday.

The fatigue after a high carb meal was a big one. I used to have a nap after breakfast if I could. I also got fatigue after a heavy dose of sweets. I learnt more about health and diet from watching KZbin than 4 years of study for a biomedical engineering degree. I did learn a tonne about replacing arthritic joints with prostheses without ever looking at lifestyle interventions. Insulin pumps and negative feedback control systems, you bet. Simply doing a low carb diet, no one mentioned it.

This is a brilliant video. My A1C was 5.0 steady for years. I’m very good with sugars. Diabetes in family so I’m very careful. Then Covid hit, eating and activity took a nose dive. I felt something going on 7 month in. Had a test and I’m at 6.0. My Dr freaked and so did I. It really bummed me out! Trying to get back in track. It’s a challenge, but I’m determined. 👍🏾🙏🏾♥️🇨🇦

Thank for a great discussion of prediabetes. FYI, increased blood sugar causes increased sugar in the aqueous humor which is an ultrafiltrate of the blood. Increased sugar in the aqueous causes the lens of the eye to absorb some of the sugar. The resulting osmotic pressure gradient pulls a little extra aqueous humor and water into the lens of the eye and holds it there causing swelling of the lens. The swollen lens bends light more as it passes through causing a myopic shift. Please note a few points: you are correct that swelling of the lens is not diabetic retinopathy from small vessel damage. Swelling of the lens occurs far more quickly than small blood vessel damage. A person who has normal vision or some myopia will experience the myopic shift as blurred vision. A farsighted, or hyperopic, person will experience the myopic shift from lens swelling as improved clarity of vision. Lastly, the aqueous humor is normally found in the lens in small amounts because it nourishes the lens and cornea and then carries away waste products of metabolism.

Some other symptoms of high blood sugar are acidy stomach (GERD), irritability and moodiness (especially noticeable in children), claudification (uncontrollable twitching of legs), and neuropathy (shooting pains in hands and feet). Fatty liver is also a major result.

This is so me. I am finally trying to learn how to eat better. When I was younger, I had normal blood sugar tests. When I was pregnant, my blood sugar was very good. As I got a little older and developed Hashimotos and hypothyroidism, I packed on 70 lbs somehow. I was eating very little and walked a lot. My blood glucose test went up a little more. In recent years, it has gotten up to around 133. Now they are testing both blood glucose levels and A1C. My A1C test was 5.9 for many years. I was eating a little better but still not so good. I do walk 3 miles a day and have since I was 16 years old. My A1C went to 6.2. My doc said to give up carbs...try to go low carb. I am not low carb but am definitely much lower carb. I eat meat and veggies and maybe some lentils or beans with dinner. I don't eat breakfast or lunch. I was seeing a dietician who feels my body is in starvation mode from years of not eating and limiting my eating. This is funny right??? I mean I have been so careful avoiding cake and pies and ice cream and most junk food like chips. I've walked every day 7 days a week for 38 years now. How can I have sugar issues if my body is in starvation mode as the dietician claimed? Eating fewer carbs, I gained 3 lbs. :( My A1C went down to 5.9 again. Then in 6 months back up to 6.2. I am perplexed. I am going to watch your videos and see if I can turn this around before it's too late...if it isn't too late already.

I didn't do anything super strict but greatly reduce my carbs and sugar. I still have some and have free days here and there. Just by doing a decent reduction and nothing extreme helped me tremendously. I am trying to get much more restrictive in my carbs and sugar as I get used to the changes but just the changes I made have me feeling MUCH MUCH BETTER with a ton more energy. I have also started juicing a few times a week with fruits and vegetables.

Thank you Doctor. I have been doing KETO/CARNI for about 3 years. Many would say, with success. Never have been over 5.4 on A1C. It has come down to 5.2. Weight down about 50 lbs. BMI is where it should be. So what is the problem? Fasting glucose is mostly in 90'. Joint pain. Stiffness in right hip and neck. Must do stretching exercises daily. Will keto eventually correct inflammation in hip?
