The Drentsche Patrijshond is a versatile spaniel-type hunting dog from the Dutch province of Drenthe. Called the Dutch Partridge Dog in English, approximately 5,000 dogs are registered with the breed club in the Netherlands, and breed clubs operate in Belgium, Denmark, Scandinavia and North America.
The origins of the Drentsche Patrijshond are in the 16th century, from the Spioenen which came to the Netherlands through France from Spain, and is related to the Small Munsterlander of Germany and the Epagneul Francais of France.In the Netherlands, these dogs were called partridge dogs.

I got a Dutch Patridge dog. He’s 5 years old. To own this breed, you must have a heart of a hunter and want to work with them. They have a will to please, confident and always want to learn new things. Gundogtraining, trailing or scentwork are the best exercises to get this dog to be your best buddy. They are lovely to other people and animals and alert you but never will be unfriendly. This dog rather be ignores somebody when they are not kind to then, then got into a fight. Same way with other dogs. They are confident enough, when socialized, to tell another dog ‘no’ and ignore dogs when they are to pushy. It takes a long way to train them, because they are independent when it comes to to work and figure out a problem. Learn them to take directions. Be serious with a little bit of humor. Because sometimes they are clowning around.
