A costume spotlight on a recently finished taffeta ensemble. Based off a portrait of the sixteenth century woman, Ana de Mendoza. During her lifetime she was a countess, duchess, princess, and prisoner.
Costume was drafted, made, and worn by me! It consists of three main pieces, the undershirt, the kirtle, and the hat. It's also paired with an eyepatch since Ana was blind in one eye. The dress is made entirely from taffeta with cotton lining. Pearls and lace trim decorate the neckline, as does a brooch I purchased on ebay.
The had is felt weight interfacing covered with flannel and taffeta. It's lined with denim and cotton gauze. The exterior is decorated with feathers, pearls, and a chiffon sash.
