Strandmocks are perfect smart casual shoe for all the reasons you listed. They smart up chinos, cords and jeans when the Strand or McAllister would be too formal (depending how distressed they are). Likewise the Strand and McAllister are perfect for odd trousers with or w/o sport coat and for dressing down a suit (assuming that they are not distressed in this case).
