Sophie C I used to hate doing dressage and any type of flat work and only ever wanted to jump but then I went to pony club camp and had a dressage instructor and I actually really enjoyed it and found some really fun exercises so I have started doing much more it’s not as bad as I used to think 😂

This video was a real pleasure to watch. Chase is an honest, engaged horse who seemed to like his change of pace with jumping, and I enjoyed watching you ride. Thanks for posting this! I used dressage as the foundation for everything else I trained my Arabian gelding to do. I never competed in dressage, because what I really wanted was an excellent trail horse, who I could ride anywhere, and be able to have a confident, trusting partner in my travels. I got that. Over 24 years together we showed (fun shows, mostly trail & pleasure classes as well as driving) we explored the forests & trails of northern Illinois & southern Wisconsin, we sleighed in winter, we swam in lakes in summer. Dressage helped give me the horse of my dreams. RIP Ariel, you are always in my heart.

since you haven't posted much I don't know if you have jumped before but your position is really good the only thing I would say is to give release over the jump. It's not dressage your hands do need to move.

@crowelee9787 жыл бұрын
Your horse is gorgeous. Very nice smooth mover. Looks natural over the jumps. Would like to see a little more release over them. They're small but a release is good you want the "spring" to be released. I also would have went over the jump he refused again because you don't want the horse to get used to not jumping after a refusal. It's a nasty habit to break. Otherwise everything looks good. Love how the trainer is thorough in explaining and helping you along.

Wow! For your first time trying out show jumping with Chase, that wasn't bad. Looked pretty great honestly, except for that one jump where he balked and went the other way. I actually have done dressage the most and have only recently gotten into jumping with my current riding instructor. I've only had one lesson of jumping though, but I'm sure I'll have another one at some point in the future. She does mainly dressage, so that's mostly what I do with her. Chase is such a beautiful horse and I absolutely love how you ride him, as well as give him pets every time he does the right thing. That's always so important, especially if you are doing something completely new with him. Unfortunately, my horse at the moment is 20+ years old and due to a former injury, is no longer ridable. He used to do dressage moves too though, but he's a thoroughbred. Very sweet though. Wonderful video though Matt. You and Chase are a terrific team and I wish you luck in your show jumping career, as well as Chase. Peace to you both!

This is also a good, calming trainer. I appreciate the reinforcement understanding of it was a rein or leg issue and how to address that. What a nice rider you are. Am sure that horse X a go to the top of the FEI. Am a hunter jumper rider who focuses on big equitation. Had won the AHSA medal as a junior and didn't not go professional but rather kept showing. Retired a couple years ago after high points in state zone and nation. I. Trained dressage for 4 years as an adult to become a great equitation rider and trained my main horse with me. Practically unbeatable on the flat due to the formal dressage work. But any dressage horse can benefit from small jumping. It's fun.
