Fun fact! There was a mini ice age during the Middle Ages into the Tudor era. That’s why it was incredibly important to have heavy, warm fabrics.
@honeybee18883 жыл бұрын
I've always wondered how women could bear all those layers. Climate explains it.
@Sadimal3 жыл бұрын
And they wore natural fabrics which were very breathable compared to the synthetic fabrics we use today.
@catherinejustcatherine17783 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. I still overheat in natural fabrics. Another channel said that it was colder in Elizabethan times. I imagine that the ice age is what they were referring to.
@sophiewilliams47773 жыл бұрын
@@catherinejustcatherine1778 my understanding is that most of English history post 13-14thC (they weren’t much colder than now) are a few degrees colder than now. But the Tudor period was even more so. Given also that these people (the poor more than the rich) were normally much hungrier than we were especially in winter (anyone who’s been underweight can attest to the intensive cold it brings) I can only imagine how freezing english winters must have felt in their drafty wooden homes.

I hate when I find a video of "dressing a tudor lady" and it's mismatched pieces where the colors and fabrics clash. It doesn't give an accurate (or visually pleasing) depiction. Some of the detail I knew already, but most I did not. I can only imagine the time you spent on research and creation of this gown, let alone the cost. My only critiques would be to share a little about how heavy and/or ungainly this gown may have been for you, as well as an estimate of how long it might take to dress the woman at the time. Thank you for sharing your hard work with us, and I'll definitely be looking at more of your videos!

Thank you for this video. It really helped me to plan out a duplicated look of a royal woman in Tutor times. 🥰I love experimenting and challenging my sewing abilities. I want to make an outfit using royal plum and gold , which were consider royal colors. In fact Queen Mary, aka Bloody Mary, wore all royal purple and gold to embody her royal heritage and embrace her royal blood during her coronation. She wanted her outfit to yell out for her, "I am Queen. Respect or die!" People credit Queen Elizabeth with a lot including first Queen of England, but actually England had a long History of powerful Queens and I feel that Queen Marys' story was just as interesting as her more popular and well accepted younger sister. I need to see and further study Queen Marys' purple coronation assemble. However, your video has helped giving me the layers I need to at least get the idea of what is what. Thank you.
