I used to work at Goodwill. We never sprayed or laundered the donated clothes. As soon as we received them, we brought them out to the racks. A friend thought we washed them all before hand which is not the case. So just make sure you wash them when you take them home.

I like to sew. The best way to buy fabric is the thrift store sheets. Last week I got 2 king size sheets. One is linen and the other is organic cotton.

I wanted this video! Been switching over to all cotton and linen wool. I’ve found so much at thrift stores. It’s so expensive new. I had no idea about this until you mentioned but I’m seeing such a difference when I wear polyester or other synthetic vs natural.

I have a Goodwill close to my home. On Tuesday they do 75 percent off the color of the week. I find that most people in my area don't shop the skirts and dresses. I usually find great deals!

One thing I noticed when trying clothes on is that polyester shirts are what make my hair have a lot of static electricity and fly up in the air. I don’t have that problem with natural fibers, yay!

Oh and about sniff-testing. If a piece of clothing has no material label, and you want to take a guess, then wash it like your normal laundry, and THEN do a sniff test. You can smell when fabric contains polyester. To help it if your nose is less capable, sniff while ironing. It multiplies the "polyester" fragance. Oh, and always take good reading spectacles, a loupe or a phone with macro-shot, and a measuring tape when thrifting.

Hi Kellie, just to clarify, viscose is made from tree pulp, therefore is not an oil based synthetic like polyester. I love viscose, I find it creases less / needs less ironing than cotton but is as cool as cotton and linen. Try it out and see what you think. It is a summer weight fabric, used on its own or blended with cotton. Fabrics made from bamboo will usually promote that they are made of bamboo on their labels or packaging.

Within an hour radius of my house the thrift stores are good clothing, but almost exactly an hour away is a consignment store. The regular prices there are not worth it usually, but they do have color coded sales and clearance racks that can be fabulous. My husband was in the area last week and saw a rack of 3/$10. He called me and asked what I needed and came home with 2 long skirts and a beautiful top, all cotton. The last few months I lost 20 pounds and my wardrobe of fitting clothes is extremely minimal so I was very happy to have a few more pieces. Check consignment shops.

Re wool. It is either natural (will shrink and felt if subjected to agitation in water) or 'super-wash' which has been treated to resist felting. If you insist on machine-washing wool, buy only super-wash, then be careful to keep the temperature down and use 'delicate'. Don't use the dryer - lay the wool piece on a flat surface to dry naturally.

I once asked the lady from my local thrift shop if they wash their clothes before selling because I found a stain on a shirt that I wanted to buy and I wanted to know if this would go away by washing it. And she told me that they spray a special chemical onto all of their clothes to kind of clean them. This is why there is no bad smell in these shops. It may be some kind of a desinfectant. I am not sure how healthy it is... In the small town where I have lived in the past, there was a room where you could bring your unliked clothes and instead take the clothes home that you find there and that you like better. It was alway messy in there and the smell was very bad. I often tidied up the space and found many stained pieces. In fact: every little stain that is not removed will grow bigger because of the bacteria... that is why they need to desinfect the clothes in the shops.

They did a scientific study on linen and wool and they have a frequency of 5,000. So if you wear it, you get healthier because humans have a much lower frequency. Cotton has a frequency of 0 and organic cotton has a frequency of 100. Other fabrics have a negative frequency. Even silk has a negative frequency which is surprising. So I want to switch my organic underwear, bras and pjs to 100% Iinen. I’ve already switched my bedding to linen. I found some cute linen undergarments on Etsy. But remember, never wear wool and linen together. It cancels out their frequencies and make them down to 0. Even the Bible says to never wear them together. From my research, the Bible indicates not to wear mixed fabrics in both Deuteronomy and Leviticus. While researching about this, I have found that it lowers your frequency to zero if you mix wool and linen together. Cotton is at a frequency of 110 while linen and wool are at 5000 which will give us a much higher frequency for healing and spirituality. So, when we look at things that are in the Bible, there are real reasons that the Lord wanted us to use these fabrics and not just because it was the only thing that was made at the time.

I also have been studying this topic. Correct me if I’m wrong but all I saw was not to mix wool and linen. I do wear cotton with my linen. I’ve tossed/donated all my synthetic fibers and am either making linen garments or finding sales but I’m totally a Linenite! I finally bit the bullet and bought all organic cotton camisoles and undies from Maggie’s Organics. You are correct about the frequencies. It’s our Fathers way of protecting us.

I wear cotton with my linen too because I do not have all the pieces yet that I would like to complete my wardrobe. I am learning to sew myself so that I can make my own if I can not find the styles that I would actually like. From the research that I have done, I am drawing my own conclusions that mixing the cotton and linen will lower our frequency as with the mixing of the linen and wool. I am also basing some of my conclusion on Leviticus 19:19 where is says not to wear clothing made from 2 fabrics.@@TXDHC

As I know, God forbit Israel to mix fibers and ordered to wear only clothes made in one piece to set his people apart from the other nations. It prevented them from trading these products with the paigan countries and, as a result, prevented them from mixing with their cultures, sinful lifestyles, foreign cosmovisious ideas and paigan religions. So our conclusion from this could be Gods wish for us to not 'go with the flow' of the world in every matter, not to be "conformed to this world" and its ideas but instead "be transformed by the renewing of your mind...". I would not go so far to say that the making of our clothes would literally influence our spirituality! It may have an deep hidden influence on our body - who knows? But no where in the bible it tells us about this. So it is not on us to speculate about frequencies and these kind of things. What came to my mind instead when I read this passage from Leviticus, was what we now know on recycling mixed fibers today 😄. I dont know anything about the ways of recycling they may had in ancient days 😄 but after researching on our modern dirty fashion industrie I found out that these mixed fibers, especially the synthetic ones cant be recycled in any acceptable way. This mixed materials will by trash after worn and torn in parts... This is definetely not a God honoring way to deal with what he gives us. And then there is this topic of microplastic... THIS really makes us all ill.

When I was pregnant with my daughter, a friend from church gave me a big box of items she had used for her babies. The box was nice and sturdy so I kept it tucked away in my bedroom closet. A month or so later, I had hundreds of moths in that room. Unbeknownst to me, that cardboard box was FULL of moth cocoons. So, it’s not just the clothing you need to be careful of but also the boxes.

A side note about the bedbugs (12:35)- a washing machine will not kill them or get rid of them. They only die with very high heat so you'd need a long, hot dryer cycle (which might not be the best for linen).

@alyssamc8485 It would have to heat the item to 120 degrees Fahrenheit to kill them immediately at all stages of life. So as long as the steam cleaner is doing that it would work. The benefit of a dryer is it keeps them at a lower temperature for a longer amount of time which also does the trick.

The freezer will kill them. Leave in for a few days. Then shake outside into garbage can. Then wash like normal.

Also find local PTA thrift stores or the Habitat for Humanity that keep proceeds for the people living in the community where the stores are located. I do t think Habitat for Humanity sell clothes, but they sell sheets, bedspreads, curtains & other household products that can be used for making clothing.

Thanks for another great video Kelli! We all enjoy these so much. I'm glad you mention about cotton being sprayed with pesticides and the info on polyester. I hate polyester, but you are right - it's hard to find a "dressy" dress that isn't made of polyester. I agree with what you said about Pact. I started buying from them when they first came out, 8 or so years ago, and have always loved their clothes/underthings. However, they've become increasingly more expensive and I don't like the fit of their dresses much anymore. I will continue buying underwear and bras from them when they go on sale, because they are the best - so soft and comfortable! I also like their basic leggings to wear under dresses - so much more comfortable than most leggings. My husband also likes the mens underwear and socks. I tried to use your link, but it said it's only for first time customers! I hope others will use your link :).

What are your thoughts on wearing bamboo and tree fibers? Like, viscose, tencel, modal, and rayon? Personally, I stay away from plastics like polyester, nylon, and acrylic. But sometimes it’s so hard finding only linen, cotton and wool. I know that tencel and viscose are made with less processing/chemicals that they use to make rayon. Not sure if the chemicals are left on the fabric after processing or not.

A good place to get 100% wool slippers is a company called Kyrgies. For anyone that has cold feet like I do! They are made in Kyrgyzstan and provide living wages for their employees ect. Seem to be a good company.

Polyester smells bad. My childhood comfort smells like cotton and wool. My dad was and is a firm believer of natural fibers. He can’t stand synthetic crap. He especially loves wool blankets and real wood. All these smells and feelings remind me of my childhood ❤ I naturally feel great when wearing or touching these materials.

I've grown up my whole life with thrift store and yard sale clothes, and have never thought of bed bugs 😬 Another great thrift store option is those run by charity houses, like ones for alcoholic recovery, battered women, or just helping turn lives around. All the money goes to help their mission, and it's usually volunteer run also. Sounds like those thrift stores have a problem with moldy clothes. Gross!

Oh dear, I didn't think about buggy clothes. I do wash everything a couple of times. The problem is with having to try on things at the store. I would end up with a ton of stuff I couldn't wear if I didn't try them on. Do you try on the clothes?

Sorry, but just because makeup products are natural does not mean that they are good for for the skin. Skin has pores and the FDA does not regulate cosmetics, whether they are natural or synthetic, doesn’t matter. We weren’t meant to have things caked on our faces, or put on your eyelids and cheeks. Anything that you put on your skin enters the bloodstream because of the porous nature of skin. People need to understand that not everything that is natural in the world is good for us. THC is natural yet it is detrimental to our health, no matter how much it is touted as medicinal in some cases. Poison ivy is also natural.m and of course we wouldn’t put it on our skin. Many of these natural ingredients in makeup end up in the long run, harming our bodies.

Cotton, tobacco and coffee are the three most toxic (herbicides and pesticides) crops in the world. And focusing on cotton, many of women's hygiene products are cotton. Yes! That’s why organic is so important. And I only use a menstrual cup because of the dangers of TSS. But also, menstrual cups are much more convenient.
