I owned two Alpines in my youth. A 66 Series 5 and later in the mid 70’s a Series 4. Fun cars.

I had a blue Series V, FUF 933D. It was a lovely car in it's day especially suited to a man about town. Wish I still had it (and could get in and out of it 😢).

I drove an Alpine home for a car dealer around 50 years ago. He paid £47.50 for it and sold it as soon as he arrived home for £95, despite the black smoke coming into the cabin that almost choked me 😀. Coincidentally I owned an A-H Sprite with the registration GAM345D.

I almost bought a sunbeam tiger with a v8 as a teenager in the 90s. Also im in Canada 🇨🇦 so it's probably even more rare here

The REAL & VERY clever change is paint the wheels black & white rather than as per the factory finish of white only. Never seen that done before & makes the entire car pop!

I thought D registration was 1966? Mine was RAR 446 D a 1725 Alpine...

Changes look good for the car, but not too sure on the black roof...personally would of had it white.
@12dougreed2 жыл бұрын
They were delivered with a black roof. I had one identical to this one. Bought in 1968 whilst serving in BAOR ( Germany) only difference was my car was left hand drive. The dash on the alpine were all delivered in black.( Not sure about the tiger, as this car in the video is not a tiger ) Rattling engine , rattling gearbox. The clutch has a carbon thrust bearing ( disaster) Most of the replacement parts were the same as a Hillman husky- minks very thirsty. To sum up . Good looking car but crap quality And bad handling, a disaster on the German autobahn

As a bodyman of 30yrs, I’ve delt with a lot of Drew’s type. They’re called whole salers here in the States. They buy a vehicle and then beat up the repair shops to get there cars fixed up for very little money so there profit margins remain high. Kinda sickening😐

Amazing on all these car shows they buy the car so cheap that don't happen in real life...

7:38 why's the dashboard have such a wavy reflection...
@swansong18512 жыл бұрын
I noticed that too. It seems they hacked it with the belt sander. And probably loaded a number of coats of lacquer on in quick succession which would pull when curing. I've done a few dash boards myself and slowly does it nicely.
@CroppyBoy17982 жыл бұрын
I was surprised to see that too. I make and restore dashboards, mainly for Triumphs and I was very surprised to see the guys go at it with a handheld belt sander! 😱 I build up a number of high build primer coats that are flatted back with long blocks to give a perfectly flat finish for the final gloss coats. I've had wavy finishes in the past and have learned where I went wrong and corrected.

Roof is awful as are the wheels.. Wired would have been far better
@MyTROLLEYBUS2 жыл бұрын
Nice enough model the GT but the lack of integral folding roof a pain & will always negate its value. Better to be without a fancy wood dash & steering wheel (both of which can be retrofitted) & have a soft top - after all it's supposed to be a sports car not a coupe.

I cannot stand Drew, he is just so up himself. Paul knows his stuff for sure, but why he has to pair up with someone who knows a lot about antiques but sod all about cars I don’t know.

Dreadful, awful lash-up. The wheels on the car were very good and the roof needed to stay the same colour as the car to reduce the apparent height - the Alpine looks a bit dumpy being a copy of a '55 to 57 Littlebird, but shorter. This Drew character got it all wrong.
