Little history lesson on the first comic. First off the reason they wore metal Armour and helmets was because it would allow the wearer some protection against swords, axes, bows, crossbows ect, ect. The reason that all fell out of use is because of the rise of guns like the musket and flintlock as they had enough fire power to punch through metal Armour making it useless, and so you might as well die with fashion. The reason helmets came back during World war 1 and two was mostly to protect the wearer from debris and shrapnel from stuff like grenades or if something was destroyed and debris was flying everywhere they might have a chance to live. And for the last panel there's not much to say other then that's also the main use of helmets nowadays and that they could save your life from lower caliber bullets but that's it. Tell me in the reply's if I got anything wrong.

The arms race between armor lead to metal armor being a thing during bows and sword era but during muskets, it didn’t matter how much armor you put on you’re probably going to die so quicker faster infantry was favorable with just cloth fabric to distinguish from pho.

yea as muskets became more advanced, plate armor was completely useless. this led to armor being replaced with uniforms to stand out more, be more professional, etc.

Armor became less reliable, but it still could save your life. Heavy cavalry (cuirassiers) still wore breastplates to protect themselves from small arms fire. Try providing hundreds of thousands to over a million men (that would also have to march in that armor on top of the rest of their equipment) with armor when it all had to still be handmade, though.

Not really. Manufacturing helmets in pre industrial era that could be reliable and cheap to mass produce was impossible. It wasnt impossible to create a reliable helmet, it was just really expensive and the ones that could afford it didn't really need it in the back kilometers behind the frontlines. Funny shaped hats and feathers and everything served to change the outline of your head to the sharpshooters on the enemy side so they cannot properly determine where the hat ends and your head begins or how tall are you so they would shoot you in the torso to not risk trying for headshots and missing. And if you were against volley fire as line infantry its was irrelevant how much armor you have.

As an Australian, the whole entire "I am 20% Irish!" and other stuff like that is still prevalent here, it's probably because we're trying to cling on to history and a land that's our own, it's probably also that we're so diverse and everyone has a different background and identity. When the only culture that you have that's truly your own is so recent and is shared among everyone, you start to feel like you have no history or identity apart from your ancestors being sent on ships or migrating here. People want to be different so badly, people want a group they can identify with that's more specific to them and their land. I imagine people from different backgrounds in European countries will try to keep a connection to something that feels like it's their ancestral land too.

A lot of us that are first or second generation Canadian identify with our cultural and ethnic backgrounds, especially if both our parents are from a specific country, but that happens less and less when it gets more and more diluted. Okay, lets speak: First of all, I'm Russian. I never hated on Europe or usa, and never really liked Putin. I'm 22, so he was a president basically for my whole life. I have some awesome friends in Ukraine, and always thought of Ukraine as of our "brother country". We share a lot of history and culture together, and speak same language. But there was a lot of hating Russia. I faced a lot of hatred just because of my nationality. I faced it from everywhere: europe, usa, and even ukraine, which is incredibly weird. I always tried to be nice to everyone, but hearing something like "He is russian? Ew" is kinda devastating. I do not know the whole picture, but neither do you. As far as I can see, this whole situation is kinda forced in some ways. I hate the whole concept of war, and for my whole life I heard a lot about WW2, and "War is the worst thing that can happen" was always the basic concept that is teached in schools. But today we can see a lot of what ukraine is doing. They say "every single russian is going to pay for it", they say "there is no good russians, they all are pigs". They shoot missiles in civilans, in places where there are no army. I hate to say it, but our government is not the only problem here. If you have any questions, I will answer. But in any case, the first thing that must stop is hatred. The one thing that I see around me today-a lot of russians are uniting against oppressions from europe. We are being cut from a lot of stuff we used to, and people do not see it as a sign to do something about our government, people see it as a proof of hatred against russia, people see it as a reason to unite around our current government, even with those problems.
