Cyrillic is a Macedonian alphabet, the Macedonians originally invented it for the slavs so that they protect against latin influence, the Bulgarians are claiming as theirs, but no it isn ' t.

When they realised that this was stupid they cut the funding. Saints Cyril and Methodius would invent the glagolithic alphabet. They were half greek half slav. After that they would move to Moravia. Where Methodius will become archbishop of Moravia. They had many students there and the holy books were translated using the glagolithic alphabet to the language of Moravia. After Methodius's death the Moravian church would be merged with the german church. The students of Cyril and Methodius were imprisoned or executed and all the texts they had written were burned. Meanwhile the han later prince of Bulgaria Boris the first converted the state into a Christian one. He was trying to find a way to get rid of the Byzantine influence on his church. So he bought the best students of saints Cyril and Methodius as slaves. When they arrived in Bulgaria they managed to recreate the work of their teachers, but they realised that the glagolithic alphabet wasn't fitting with old bulgarian which at that point was a slavic language mixed with a bit of bulgar. So they created the Cyrillic alphabet and translated the holy books in old bulgarian also known as old church Slavonic used to this day in the Bulgarian church ( i am not sure if the other slavic orthodox states still use an outdated language) you have to listen very carefully to the singing of the priests to understand it. Partly because they can't sing and partly because it is a language from the 9 century. Fun fact the church that Boris founded would become the ohrid Archdiocese under Vasil the bulgarslayer.
