The thing with the indus valley being targeted from the west and north west is that you are conquering from and through arid dessert, arid iranian plateau, arid west central asia and difficult live on mountains for a 1000km and with in 50km you suddenly are on one of the largest and most fertile valleys know to humans at the time. And if you go another 400 km, you get to an even larger fertile river valley. The sudden change in the gradient from a difficult to farm plateau to an extremly fertile plain with little defenses, makes the indus valley an attractive place for western bordering states to invade. Mesopotamian valley and yellow river bank are in a similar but slightly less attractive position.
