Nice video. I am so glad you highlighted having the bottom edge of the flashing free of shingles. My house is taller than the ones around me and I can see many of my neighbor's vent boots from my windows. In the winter, like now, the vent boots with no material at the bottom are free of ice, while the ones with shingles covering the bottom edge of the boot have ice build up. Sometimes after a few freeze-thaw cycles, the shingles to the sides will buckle up. Thanks for the video.

That looks awesome! I have a 3" exposed cast iron pipe on my asphalt shingled roof. There is a 1/2" ring at the top of the cast iron pipe, making the width at the top 3.50". After that top ring, the actual pipe is 3" in diameter. Is the part that slides down the 3" pipe flexible to pass over the 1/2" ring at the top? If not, is there another product you'd recommend for my type of application?

So Drew a question I am going to use one of these boots for sure... I have the rotted out rubber on the original boot/flashing and this I can see is a fantastic design/solution. My only question is caulking that last piece in on the first example in the video... the caulk was applied to the top rim of the second to last piece adhering the final piece to the underside of the final piece's rim or "cap". In the last example the caulk was applied to the cylinder of the third and final "cap" piece then sliding that into the vent pipe adhering the last "cap" piece to the interior of the vent pipe? On that last example it seems if you go that route... when the roof is replaced eventually and that boot needs removing you'd have issues taking off the boot potentially damaging the original vent pipe? Seems like the first method is the better way to go... no?
@RobbyMaQ
@RobbyMaQ 3 жыл бұрын
I'd have to agree... When replacing the shingles down the road, it'd be easier to cut away the perma boot in the first example. 2nd example not so much

Yes thanks for the question and yes. It is hard to get off after it’s been on there for a while but they will come off without destroying the pipe.

@montyholland3357
@montyholland3357 4 жыл бұрын
@@Aceofthedynasty unless your roof has an extremely Sharp angled roof you don't need to worry about falling off. Just walk carefully, or crawl if heights bother you. The repair takes 5 to 10 minutes tops. If your still nervous. Just go buy you a bundle of rope find an anchor point opposite the side your climbing. And just tie off around your waist. Not as good as the safety harnesses but not500 dollars either, But effective on safety
@Aceofthedynasty
@Aceofthedynasty 4 жыл бұрын
@@montyholland3357mine is pretty sharp. Used a Little Giant to get on the roofing above my garage earlier and damn near killed myself. Kicked the ladder out before regrabbing and safely getting down. Def not going back up without a safety device. The install looks crazy easy and that's what driving me crazy. Cause I want to do it but I also don't want to kill myself. Also I'd rather not be ripped off by someone who is going to charge me like crazy for labor for doing something so simple. That's the conundrum.
@montyholland3357
@montyholland3357 4 жыл бұрын
@@Aceofthedynasty starters, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, have assistance when climbing on the roof. ALWAYS have at least one helper. They secure the ladder for you so you don't have that issue. They also can hold a tieoff rope for your safety. Remember 2 is one, One is none. when doing anything on the roof, doing anything period 2people are better than one. Now the steeper your ladder Angle the harder it is to transition back on to it. Try to place the feet of the ladder if it has the length with the feet about 10 to 15 ft away from the base of the home. Greater the angle the easier it is to transition on and off. Also with the proper angle it's almost like stairs coming down. I face away when climbing down a ladder when it's spaced like this, just like with stairs. But this is why a second person is key to anchor the ladder. ALWAYS have a 2nd person helping. That's all the advice I have

Jason - the Perma-Boot has grooves on the cap and pivot section of our product which allows it to grab the pipe securely and Drew added adhesive on top of that to help hold it down which does help when you in areas with high wind like he is.
