I agree. It is also exhausting and I sometimes forget the self-care part of that. I appreciate that you respect my doing so, though!

Great video! Usually careers start with a strong passion and evolve into responsibilities that drain that passion as your influence grows. Glad to see your hand is still on the oars as you pump out this great content. Don't be afraid to leave it behind when the time comes.

I wish I could make videos like this. My family watch, and I don't have the confidence to talk about this infront of them - which is strange as I'd gladly talk to the world about it! But you're right, you spend so much time creating videos, working on the next one, that you really do lose the time to actually DO things for your own enjoyment. Can't remember the last time I played something on tin whistle that I wanted to play :D haha. Perhaps that means it's time for a break?! Keep up your strength, you're doing great and your content is always awesome! x

Hey, I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you do! I honestly think that helps people connect more with the person behind the lessons. But I also know that can be intimidating...I had to be encouraged by a friend to do so directly before I recorded my first vlog and really started sharing my thoughts. As for finding that balance--if you figure out how to do it please share! I think there are a lot of us out there that struggle to find it!

Ben, I, like many others, love the work you've contributed to help build this niche art form into a real community. The post you made about exploring 1.5 variations the other day was a beautiful glimpse of what brought most of us here in the first place. It was great content and genuinely thought provoking. Now, you and I don't see eye to eye politically or culturally (for the most part), but that isn't the glue that holds this community together. It's our shared love for poi! Right? Perhaps your disappointment stems from the premise that you've adopted; that we are poi spinners and our broader community are seeking "change" in the world. This just isn't so. We didn't sign onto our poi journey to become revolutionaries. We just love poi, and there's nothing wrong or disruptive about sharing that one commonality. Maybe you would like to see a specific change in society's set of principles, but the poi community isn't the vehicle for that movement. A skateboarder doesn't go to the skatepark with their buddies to receive a lecture about why dogs are better than cats. They go to play skateboard. Sure, a few skaters there might support that notion, but it isn't what brought other skaters there. Some might even think cats are better than dogs and will enter into fight or flight when they start getting lectured about how they're wrong. In this fictitious example, all the skaters went there to skate, and we're here to spin, regardless of philosophical differences. In closing, that 1.5 video was a true return to form that I really loved and I'm sure many of your old friends on this platform loved to see from you too. If this community is meant to be more than it is today, it will happen organically. Right now the change feels forced and artificial, and it's discouraging to everyone that just loves poi and doesn't care about other arbitrary differences.

Listing flow values, #1 mental health, #2 physical conditioning, #3 diversified culture... seems like to me the negative in the community roots from those that value competition, and attention... above all.

I think it's a lot more complicated than that. I outlined some of my thoughts on this in last week's vlog but suffice it to say that I think those are contributing factors. And I'm glad that flow arts brings these values into your world!
