This was very informative and like the Drex mentioned, you can use materials around the house. Thank you

I made this today. They came out great. Then as an after thought, I realized I should have grabbed an extra inner tube or two for a rope dart...so I'm using both poi as the dart end. I wish I could add a picture. Either way. Thank you!

Personally i have financial issues currently so ive been looking for diy videos for making poi and staffs and such i am in a slight position of need but also want to do flow arts. I have pretty bad tourettes and havent exercised since before quarantine began so it would help calm me down and train and give me some exercise. Along with having some asthma i need activity to help out my lungs so they arent so weak so im really glad videos like these exist so I can make myself some things to help start out. I can take a hit or more so im probably gonna use this for starter poi. :)

Hey Drex Nice design, I use inner tubes for my dyi practice staffs, but somehow I hadn't thougth about turning them into poi--heads. I do usually recommend socks + weight for beginners, as they can become quite soft, I will try buying some furniture feet though, to upgrade the handles. Also: the stretching properties of the socks can be quite useful when learning isolations. They do make pendulums and stalls very hard though.

There's an alternate version of these that involve using insulating strips instead of bike inner tubes but it drives the price up so I didn't cover it here. There were a lot that I enjoyed about socks and used them extensively for the first two years I was spinning. That said: switching to static tethers was a real game changer for me!

What size rope is best? 1/4" or 3/8"

Question, do think I could use electrical tape instead of bike tubing. I've noticed that some types of electrical tape it looks and feels like bike tubing. If I was to rap enough layers to mimic the weight of bike tubing do you think that will work? If so how much do you think each side should weight?

Is there a particular sort of rope that is better than another or is that fairly inconsequential?

What song is in the background of the hardware store? Great vid!
@DrexFactor6 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! The song is "Fix One Thing at a Time" by Max McFerren. It's in the KZbin audio library.

Sweet thanks, love the first minute or so of it. Also I made some DIY poi with rice (already had), socks my girlfriend gave me, and balloons I bought for $2! I made them pretty heavy because I like the momentum for figuring out new tricks, slowing it down has helped me get the pattern

This is super helpful however for $26.44, add one more dollar and you'd be able to buy 2 sets of led poi from amazon.
@DrexFactor6 жыл бұрын
True story...but bear in mind that things like the rope and tape can then be used again for many other sets of poi. If you want to build in bulk the price per pair can drop to as little as $5/pair (remember: the bike inner tubes are free).

True, true. Your videos are all super helpful! Im actually getting my first set of poi this month to start my journey; and i must add I've been binge watching your videos for tricks and tips.

These suck. Dont ever use poi with not full rotational symmetry?
@DrexFactor6 жыл бұрын
DJDDM What on earth is rotational symmetry? If you’re talking about torque, they handle it as well as a set of contact poi.
