She once said in an interview, that the day she was crowned, she was so nervous and sad, because her father, the king, had died and she knew her life would never be the same, but when she stepped out on the balcony to greet the people, there was no doubt in her mind that she was loved and supported by the people!

My Grandma told me lots about it when I was a child in the 1960s - she died in 1968 and lived in the German monarchy as a young woman . Many of my friends are British and we all are royalists ... @@juliehock6059 well Danish, Swedish and Norwegian are VERY similar. I myself am from Denmark and I understand almost 90% of all Norwegian, Swedish is a bit harder for me personally. But I do know that they speak their own language because they all understand each other, Queen Margrethe does speak Swedish fluently because her mother was Swedish

There is a warmth and natural tactile affection shown in this royal family that you just don't see with the Brits. Margrethe was physically and publicly affectionate and playful with her kids and still managed to be taken seriously as monarch. Elizabeth was a fine person/queen noted for her stoic dedication to her "duty" but part of her "duty" was to parent the next monarch to be an emotionally healthy human being. I respect her but sadly think she failed as a parent.

And that you have been taking seriously, last week you were celebrated properly in Aarhus. And this week the celebration continues in Copenhagen. Many Danes took part in the celebrations by meeting up with flags in the streets, by following you on television and by sending you personal greetings. And we haven't even reached the day yet. When one becomes 75, it's also within your good rights- to take status and look back on the years that has gone past. When you were 31 years of age, took over the responsibility and obligation as regent of Denmark- your marriage was barely 5 years long, you were a mother of two boys at the ages 3 and 2. You had expected and hoped for time with family, before fate redeemed your ticket as Heir of the throne. That is 44 years ago soon.Several generations have never tried anything other than that you were thir Queen. Indeed their is even grandparents who have lived with you as head of state. That responsibility, I think very few people understand the gravity of. But you have always managed to make it look easy. You have indeed lived after your own motto, to move with the times without becoming a slave to it. Today 75 years is after all no age, so even if you have reached a point in your life where you celebrate round birthdays every fifth year, then there is also good reason to look ahead. And im sure of there awaits you alot of great years as queen, as a mother and as a grandmother. Many good experiences and many good moments have you still to come. Dear mother, you have insight, wit and sense. But also clarity and understanding of the contempoary, have you brought our monaki to the place we are today. Of that i'm proud, and you have good reason to be proud of it yourself. And you should know that no matter what the future brings, you have at any time my full heartfelt support, encouragement and utmost respect!.
