Gaggy Mott Britain and Denmark aren't comparable. Denmark is a small country, where nearly everybody is somehow related, and everyone knows nearly everyone else. It's a very familiar society. Denmark was, in the 17th & 18th centuries, the paladine of royal absolutism. So much so, that even other absolute monarchies in Europe regarded Denmark as something like an "absolutistic zoo". But in the 19th century Denmark made deep reforms, lost a terrible war against Prussia and the crown decided to get more attached to her own nation. From exaggerated and overdone absolutism Denmark switched over to constitutionalism and to larger people's participation in politics. In Britain, Charles the first was beheaded, in Denmark it was the King who championed the country's "democratization". And last, but certainly not least, during the nazi occupation it was the royal family that defied the nazi occupiers: first, the royal family, the government and the population united to save all the jews, who were secretly sent over to Sweden, spiriting them away in a cloak and dagger operation. Secondly, the king, Christian X, didn't care about the nazis at all, using his traditional daily horse rides as a subversive manifestation against the nazi occupation. He rode every morning through Copenhagen, as he used to do before the occupation, and that alone was a signal of irreverence. And every single morning the people gathered around him shouting "long live the king, long live Denmark", which equalled a popular uprising. After a while, the nazis arrested the king. The Danish Monarchy is intrinsically entangled and interwoven with the very soul of the nation. All in all: the Danish Monarchy is "a whole 'nother ball game", like the Americans like to say.

They are bowing/curtseying to the Queen and Prince Consort. Traditionally in Denmark, bows are done with the back (as opposed to the neck in the UK) and curtseys are much lower than the "bobs" British women act out.

Hence, Danish churches still retain their historical furnishings and decorations inside. [Maybe; I'm speculating to a degree.] This difference may be explainable by the fact that the Danish state church is Lutheran whereas the Dutch equivalent is/was a fairly radical form of Protestantism.
