@@squareball7017 Our previous time was 8 minutes 11 seconds but the WR at the time wasn't by us and was 8 minutes 9 seconds. We were trying to get sub-7 to make our time even stronger, which yeah when we failed to it presented as disappointment. Still, over the course of our attempts we improved the WR by more than a minute when in the past others would improve it by a few several seconds

@@qwp1884 it happens when you sprint at the same time as using the grapple. If you let go of shift just before and during a grapple, it should work every time (at least from my experience). Still annoying though

That's pretty much all I've done for the past 2 years. I love the seeded maps and being able to try different routes. By far my favorite aspect of the game!

@@benicopter just from watching this video i can totally understand how much enjoyment you can get out of this aspect of the game. my friends and I aren't very experienced in this game yet, but I'm sure that we will give this a shot at some point (and not even come close to a world record).

@@mistadude Awesome! Let me know how it goes! The WR is completely dependent on the missions (which are random). I think I calculated at roughly a 1/100 probability that a deep dive with have missions to contend with a WR time (no time-gated missions like Escort Duty, Salvage Operation, etc). Since they update weekly, that's about once every 2 years. The last record was just over a year ago. So it's more of a waiting game than anything.

a masterclass in precision! how many runs does it take to route and perfect a dive like this?

It probably takes just a few runs to get the routes down. The difficult part is fine-tuning the routes and minimizing errors. Something as simple as getting grabbed by a Grabber can derail the entire run. It may only cost us 5 seconds of time, but that is a huge difference when we're going for such a fast time. I would say we had roughly 50 runs. Most of those are resets in the 1st stage. If we didn't get under ~46 seconds when pressing the button, it would be an immediate reset because there's almost no way to make up the time on the later stages.

Our goal was sub-7 minutes and we really really wanted it. To get so close was disappointing in the moment, but reflecting on it we’re proud of what we accomplished. We had planned on trying again Wednesday night before the weekly reset, but unfortunately Ryeor’s internet was out the entire night and we couldn’t run at all.

It does not kill you. It can push you through the map and you’ll get teleported to a part of the cave. But if you position yourself at a specific level you can clip through the bottom and get inside the pod

Watch Bens other speed runs. I play driller with him 95% of the time. This was not a good dive for the other classes sadly.

We almost always run Scout + Driller duo on deep dive speedruns. With this mission lineup and cave generation, driller would’ve only been useful on the 3rd stage. So because of that, we opted to just run 4 Scouts instead.
